The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

Joe Flanigan had enough money to buy the Stargate franchise? I mean I am inpressed but also a little shocked. He must have other money than what he got from the tv show.

He doesn't. When Atlantis got canceled he raised 25ish million dollars from some backers to, lets say rent Stargate Atlantis right for 10 years I think. It was enough money to make a 6th season. MGM said no.

"Deliverance" remake? Ugh. A Michael Bay "Deliverance" remake?

Just wait until the Citizen Kane remake where a sled is in all the promotional materials.

Come to think of it, I think one of the covers for the Planet of the Apes VHS had the Statue of Liberty on it.

At least their is no potential for any of his racisms in the backwood Georgia landscape. None at all.

I can't find anything about Michael Bay and Deliverance, not even click bait sites like Screen Rant.

According to Variety, Paramount is looking at rebooting The Saint yet again, this time with Chris Pine as Simon Templar. It's been over 20 years since the film with Val Kilmer, and a few years since the failed TNT pilot starring Adam Rayner was broadcast as a TV-movie. To be honest, I don't think anyone was really clamoring for this to be made.

The most interesting part of the article is this paragraph, which makes it sound like Pine might still be involved with an eventual Star Trek 4 despite the news from 2018 that he had walked away from Trek 4 when he was asked to take a pay cut because Star Trek Beyond had underperformed at the box office:
Paramount and Pine have had strong ties for many years. Their relationship goes back to 2009 when the studio hired him to play Captain Kirk in the latest “Star Trek” franchise, launching his career as a leading man in the process. While the fourth “Star Trek” film is still being developed, the studio saw “The Saint” as the perfect role for Pine as they wait for that script to be finished.
I'm curious to find out whether that part is true, or if they were just pulling stuff out their ass to pad the article.

A few weeks ago, the reboot was supposed to feature Chris Pratt. I wonder if they’re going through all the Chrisses in reverse alphabetical order?

Presumably this means that, like in the Kilmer version, Simon won’t be a Brit?

I like the concept of The Saint but while I remember liking the Ian Ogilvy version as a child, it’s probably fair to say that there hasn’t been a particularly good onscreen version of the character since Roger Moore. Still, will give it a chance.

No one's asking for The Saint, but this is Hollywood being Hollywood. They're spending more and more on spectacle, but they don't want to take any risks so they try to use existing property for name recognition -- Charlie's Angels, Fantasy Island, Jungle Cruise, Child's Play, The Grudge, Pet Sematary. At this rate, we're going to get movies on Franken Berry, the Press Your Luck Whammy and the Energizer bunny.
