The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

Again, the only reason she had more followers is because of Game of Thrones. If she was plain old Sophie Turner with no acting credits she probably wouldn’t have got a call, much less the part. And it show how limited she and the reporters are in their understanding of Hollywood. As I’ve pointed out this is not a new phenomenon. Do we think guys like Sinatra or Elvis would have gotten movie deals if they hadn’t been popular singers first?

Social media influencers are a funny thing. That we put so much faith on social media rankings when in theory they should mean little shows how much the world values social media.

Weirdly Elizabeth Olsen keeps getting work, despite not having any social media accounts?

She's not the only one.

She's likely got a good agent. I have to hand it to Sophie Turner though, because at least she was open and honest as to how she got the job and realizing there were other actors more talented than her up for the job.

It's suspected that the social media posts of some Hollywood celebrities, such as Jenna Ortega, Tom Holland, and Leonardo DiCaprio, are being created by management companies. This is because the social media posts of Jenna Ortega, Tom Holland, and Leonardo DiCaprio are nothing more than promoting premieres and upcoming films. Even their statements on social media regarding social issues may have been created by management companies at the request of these celebrities.

Yeah, that's just it. I was going to mention that. If they have a social media following and social media influence, it's only someone pulling the strings, and half the time, most of them are likely never involved. So, the fact that they would even be considered for a job because of that is a little odd, and it's disingenuous.

Social media being used to promote a movie you’re in????? Tell me it isn’t so!!!!!!

Not a reboot but I didn't know where else to put this. After recent action movies called The Beekeeper, The Painter, The Bricklayer, The Accountant, The Baker and The Courier, the next one is called.... The Painter.

Sosyal medyanın oynadığınız bir filmi tanıtmak için kullanılması mı????? Bana bunun doğru olmadığını söyleyin!!!!!!
Unfortunately, that's true; none of the names I mentioned have Twitter or Facebook accounts. However, they do have Instagram accounts, and they use them entirely for premieres they attend and for promoting upcoming films and TV series (or rather, it seems like management companies use them.) Because of the publicity incident, Universal pressured Scarlett Johansson to open an Instagram account. But she refused because she didn't want to be addicted to social media and probably didn't want Instagram to be used solely for business purposes by management companies like the names I mentioned.

Jenna Ortega's Instagram account mostly features magazine shoots and galas she's attended. Tom Holland promotes his beer brand. He shares photos of his brother's food magazine and the talk shows he's attended, as well as photos from Spider-Man 4. Leonardo DiCaprio promotes the films and documentaries he's starred in or produced.

Reminds me a news story I heard two or three years ago about a hotel chain that was excited over all it's Likes and Followers, but ... all that didn't translate into more business. And doing a quick search shows this is a thing for other hotels.

Yes, being "liked" or "followed" doesn't mean anybody cares. People like to have followers, makes them thing they're a bigger and more important random ant than they are.

A "likes", well, then they must be a super special random ant!

No one's ever liked things before, after all.

Yeah, the irony in all that is that it really doesn't mean a single thing. Especially if being followed is the only way you can receive news. It's like subscribing to someone. Even then, you're not really subscribing to 'them', you're subscribing to someone posting on their behalf.

As for your example, this is even more the case if a small business has no website but instead directs people to a Facebook page, and IMO, a Facebook page should never replace an actual website. That is unfortunately a common error, with these businesses likely trying to save money, but a FB page should be used in addition of, not as a sole way to get information about a business.

As for rumors that Danielle Deadwyler is being eyed to star in the reboot, Coogler laughed, “I can neither confirm or deny.” The same goes for possible appearances by original “X-Files” stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny.
