The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

Maybe it was. I only noticed the story on Den of Geek last night; they do often belatedly comment on news from a while ago as more of a commentary than breaking news, and that article does appear to be such an example.
I think there's been more detailed news that's come out this week to be honest so Den of Geek aren't being massively slow, but the original announcement was back in March!

Why does it seem like all news out of Hollywood these days is more depressing with each new reported story?

I'm tired of old franchises. Not even to thrilled with new ones. I just want more original stories told. We still get good movies and TV but it becomes harder and harder to find it new year it seems.

Even A24 movies are starting to feel formulaic. Where they all start feeling like the same movie. Not against blockbusters but I would like to see movies like that with big high concepts but not attached to old IP.

Quality entertainment is still out there. If you can't find movies or TV that are satisfying you, there are alternatives. Maybe check out TV shows from other countries. British television can actually make tired TV genres like cop shows fresh and interesting. Or you could always just try a different medium, read novels or comics. Yes, it's pretentious claptrap, but a good book really can be as good if not better than movies or television.

Indy films and shows are about as close as anyone can get to any kind of originality, but under the hood it's really just a same limited set of general plot lines re-told in an imaginative way. The ones that fail at this are labeled "formulaic" (and often rightfully so). Trek's been around for far too long to ever be accused of being original in any way. It copies from itself and thousands of other things. At the end of the day, the old cliche, "It's all about the journey, not the destination" is a cliche for a reason. :)

News. What a crock.
Precisely. Whatever a viewer's preference, be it either left wing or right wing, all news programs cater to that narrative on the surface but, at its core, it's 99% negative, with the occasional puff-piece about someone saving a pet from the aftermath of a tornado or some charity work being done at a local soup kitchen. Negativity in general and panic porn in particular moves the ratings needle like nothing else.
