The unnecessary reboot/remake of the week thread

A bit late to the party, but it seems no one has mentioned it here:

I was browsing Youtube, and was recommended Fahrenheit 451, the 66 movie. And I was like, oh, neat! Movie was alright though I don't think they should had changed the ending, the book hits a bit harder.

Then I was like, huh, how the book and movie go into how mass media basically made books irrelevant and people have shorter attention spans and are focused on what is basically social media with books then scorned and tainted with an anti-intellectual bent, in this age of tiktok and vine, did someone else do that? And lo and behold, apparently in 2018 Hollywood did, and it changed even MORE than the '66 movie did and misses the point. Which is a shame because, for predicting the future and making a scenario, Fahrenheit 451 (the book) hits close to what we have now, and might be even more topical with tiktok, book bans, et al.

Yeah, I felt the recent version rather disappointing, and ultimately felt like they had missed the point. Which is too bad, because I think it would have been a great topic to explore, and as you point out, it's perhaps even more relevant now with social media.

Amazon’s Cruel Intentions series drops every episode on Nov. 21. If you didn’t know, many years ago there was a Cruel Intentions prequel pilot starring Amy Adam’s in the Sarah Michelle Gellar role. It didn’t get picked up but they added some R-rated scenes and released it direct to video as Cruel Intentions 2.

So as well as Badlands, the next Predator movie (from the director of Prey, but not a direct sequel to that), a secret Predator film has also been made by that same director. And there is to be another Alien film, while Fox/Disney aren’t quite ruling out the possibility of Speed 3 (though I’m not sure if they’re entirely serious about that latter one).

Yeah, the article and interview are all over the place. I'll summarize the details about the Predator film I remember, so save some people brain cells:

  • Same director as Badlands.
  • Will come out before Bandlands next year, but apparently only Badlands will be in theaters.

And the award for most unexpected legacy sequel goes to...... Martin Lawrence in Blue Streak 2.

I'm going to Hollywood to pitch Encino Man II, Weekend at Bernie's III, Mighty Ducks IV and Revenge of the Nerds V. Wish me luck.

Well I actually liked Weekend at Bernies 2 so I'd be up for number 3, might be a tough one to make though

Turns our Bernie had a kid named Bernie JR. Like his dad he now has died but he died before a big corporate merger that is going to go down after a big celebration in Las Vegas. Two interns realize the key to promotion is for the merger to go through so Bernie Jr needs to be alive for it to happen. This means lots of dragging dead Bernie JR around Las Vegas for fun hijinks. The movie is called "Bernie's Vegas Weekend"

To be fair, just base it on Bernie Ecclestone, I mean surely he's been dead for years and someone has been dragging him about

But he would have been dead for decades. I mean even in a Weekend at Bernie's movie I am not sure they could get away with that idea.

Y'all need to put your Hollywood thinking caps on here. In Weekend at Bernies 3, the titular character will be "Bernadette".

To keep the legacy of the series of movies, they'll nickname her Bernie, a daughter he fathered but never learned he had. She sends off some invitations to friends for a birthday party, but passes away shortly after. Months later her friends arrive to her party and hijinks ensue.

Or the interns could be both girls. Everyone thinks Bernie is about to be part of a threesome and along they way in getting their promotions they also take down Toxic Masculinity.

We'll just re-make it. And no need to do a casting call, just place the camera on Joseph Robinette Biden.
Played by Dana Carvey.

So the first one will take place 14 years later and the the one after that will be in another 14 years?
