Spoilers The supporting cast

It's actually funny, that I was liking Jurati more than the other supporting cast, specifically because they HAD avoided all the cliché stuff that the others have been built on...……. until this week

The whole "JL" thing is annoying. It sounds a bit contrived, like "Hey look everyone! I know Picard well enough to call him by his initials!" It just doesn't sound natural.

Why does her calling him "JL" depend on how well she knows him? I don't understand the problem.

I'd take them over the TNG crew any day. Picard and Data were the only ones I liked of those.

Raffi is bugging me, though, between the endless JLs and the woe is me setup.

I loved Jurati until what she did at the end of last episode; I hope there's something really good behind that.

Dr. Jurati - annoying, pathetic comic-relief character (similar to Tilly the Silly from STD)
Raffi - annoying character, all the time uttering that unconvincing "JL", bad actress, melodramatic overacting
Rios - bordering on annoying, uninteresting, uninspiring, irrelevant
Elnor - the LotR character is tolerable, the only good actor among the supporting cast

Spot on.

Really? Raffi the drunkard? Jurati the
murdering,
silly comic "doctor"? Fascinating how some shitty characters from a few episodes of this show to someone can appear more favorable than the good, fleshed out characters from a 150+ episodes of an iconic Trek show. But who am I to argue about your (bad) taste.

Reminder that this thread isn't currently spoiler tagged, so no major plot spoilers from the past two episodes, please.

That's hyperbolic.

Your assessment of the lady playing Raffi is hardly convincing since Ms Hurd is a well known actor with a number of very well received TV/Movie appearances over her career.

Your bias against Star Trek: PICARD is well over the top and borders on being ludicrous.

You constantly spew pedantic rants that simply have no basis in reality.

It's almost like you just want to argue for the sake of arguing with no real interest in communicating.

:sigh:

Apparently her acting skills haven't improved as a result of that. Haven't you noticed her bad acting/overacting? Esp. in the scenes when she seems to be emotionally shaken. It's soap opera acting level.

Why do you get the impression that it is over the top? That's your subjective impression. A somewhat harsh criticism, which this imo dreadful show deserves, is not ludicrous. Why would it be ludicrous?

Everyone can express their own views, can't they? What you interpret as a rant, I see as justified criticism. On the contrary, that criticism is very well based in reality. I won't go into those things here since it would be off topic, but I did provide argumentation in the STP discussion board as to why use of a particular vernacular has no place in a series called Star Trek. This is not the place for those issues since it's about the supporting cast.

I don’t regard most of the TNG characters as good or fleshed out. Indeed, I find them one-note, shallow and predictable, with their interactions often artificial and contrived. The frustrations of creative minds like Ira Behr and Ron Moore regarding writing them are entirely understandable.

I can appreciate the comfort value of such predictability, though. That value must be great indeed to you if you feel the need to lash out at someone who doesn’t share your feelings for them.

You express your Opinions as if they are Fact and many times they aren't even close to being true.
That is the overlaying feature of all your posts.
You apparently want us to take what your saying as 'Gospel', the problem is that your gospel isn't very convincing or even factual.

I like everyone so far, except for the mustache twirling Romulan siblings. Every time Rizzo invades her brother's personal space with her hissing, nasal enunciation I start fantasizing about her acid suicide pill accidentally activating.

I would imagine that she removed hers a long time ago
(if she ever had one)
She's not the kind that would sacrifice herself for anybody BUT Herself!

And she's going to try and take as many folks with her when she finally gets in that position.
A One Tooth-pill ain't gonna cut it.

The new characters are great and worthy additions to the Trek mythos. Rios and Raffi are my stand out favourites. I liked the chemistry and camaraderie between the two when they were talking about Seven (ninety-nine or eleven according to Rios).

The characters on TNG could be dull as dishwater at times because they had to adhere to being perfect utopian humans.

how do you judge that, what is your assessment based on?
