Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

I got the impression a while ago - and keep getting it - that most fights and back-and-forward-endless-loop-nonsense here happens only because of misunderstandings. People don't write in full detail what exactly they mean cause they think it's clear as written, others don't properly read what's written and discuss stuff that was never the point or everyone actually agrees on, and some do both :D

About whether it will never ever really not ever happen: We can go back to this when the show is over. Then I'll either say Hah! or Huh. :D

I'm not sure how that proves your point, they're only a deck high when you see them from the inside.

My 'point' is that those windows (which weren't on the ship in DSC) make it look even less like the TOS version. You know, for the people here who seem to think that the ship is going to be refit to look like it does in TOS.

I mean, the TMP Refit replaced the windows completely as well.

If the TOS Connie can be turned into the Refit, the DSC Can be turned into (a scaled up) TOS Connie.

You are missing the point. The producers of SNW aren't going to refit the ship to look like the TOS version. Aren't you the one who has been saying for years that DSC and SNW are visual reboots? So why think that they're suddenly going to go back to the TOS aesthetic?

Well, that's always my point. If the TMP can be the same ship as the TOS one then so can the SNW/DSC ship.

It’s already the same ship. It just isn’t going to be refit into the TOS version because it already is the TOS version, as far as the SNW producers are concerned.

I don't disagree. I also don't underestimate the willingness of them to kowtow to the nostalgia demands of the vocal proponents in the audience.

Again, I see both sides of this.

I don't.

I'm just saying the change from the new design to the TOS design would be just as believable as the TOS design to the refit.

I don’t find it believable at all. To think that the show will suddenly go from looking like a 2023 production to looking like a 1966 production, just to satisfy some vocal internet whiners, is silly.

TOS to TMP was an example of technology going forward. SNW to TOS would be an example of technology going backward.

I meant the physical changes. I wasn't talking about being believable in universe.

Going from the new design to the TOS design (without changing the size) would be just as drastic physically as going from the TOS to TMP.

I'm still hoping they do an episode where either someone in the future is reviewing a "historical recreation" or something ala 'The Elysian Kingdom' where everything from the sets to the costumes to the ship are in the TOS aesthetic. Personally, I'd find an episode like that charming and fun. I'm sure there is a section of fandom that would be enraged.

The problem with retconning what we saw in TOS as just an inaccurate historical recreation is that the Defiant crew from DS9 went back in time to the TOS era, and it looked exactly like what was seen in that show. Of course, this happened before ST: FC, so perhaps the time travel in that movie caused things to be different from that point onward...

The Bajorans simply got it wrong. It's not the Orb of Time, it's the Orb of Historical Recreations.
