Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

because they were 'under the gun' to design it with a refit in mind, or not

Eaves came up with the refit idea on his own, it wasn’t a request from the higher ups. Being a TOS fan he just assumed the ship would eventually turn into the TOS version, and incorporated details into the DSC version that might help that. No one asked him to add those details.

I’m getting my info from the same places I assume the M-A article did. His art book and the Eaglemoss model booklet.

I’m just saying that as far as we know, they have no plans on making the ship look TOS. Eaves isn’t a writer on the show, he doesn’t even work on SNW. So he probably has no idea what their plans are down the line.

He’s mentioned in the past that the ship art team is barely told anything about the story. He didn’t even know the spore drive existed when designing the Discovery. He knew there was some sort of experimental propulsion drive, but he was given no details beyond that. He used that info to make a head canon reason why all the Fed ships in season 1 had blocky nacelles.

you do realize it's the same ship, right...
Of course, that’s why they used the DSC design in Picard season 1, and the TOS Design in DSC S2 previously on segment. They can be used interchangeably because they’re the same ship.

Why would the writers have anything to do with it? The last season, and certainly the last episode, have not been written yet, have they? I also remember one of them saying the design will get closer to TOS as the show progresses.
The designer's intention as stated stands. Therefore, it is easily possible, and we will have to wait and see, as stated above.

Anyone who thinks that by the end of SNW we’re going to see the Enterprise as how it looked in TOS is smoking something.
As long as they do so in the privacy of their own home who cares?

It wouldn't surprise me one way or the other. The production teams have shown a weakness for loud fan pushback and nostalgia so if the TOS Enterprise shows up I would not bat an eye. But, I lean more towards them keeping it the same.

Your humor tends to elude me. Perhaps that’s my fault.
Perhaps I should add the emoji to convey. I am sarcastic and dry witted by default. Most things strike me as humorous and sarcastic even if they are not. I usually do not indulge in drug-based humor but yours struck me as a prime opportunity for a "quip" as it were.

I'll strive to do better next time ;)

I think they threw the idea of a TOS Refit away when they decided to upscale the SNW Enterprise to be so much larger.
The TMP Refit had a lot of proportion changes but jump through enough mental hoops it could be thought of as a refit of the TOS ship. The TOS was 946 ft, the SNW 1450 ft- no way a refit into the TOS configuration would work.

I'm rather fond of the upscale. 289 meters always seemed too small and I think it's been proven that things really wouldn't have fit inside a 289m Enterprise. 442 meters is great on the SNW Enterprise because everything fits and it's not a massive upscale like the 725m JJprise. You can upscale the Refit Enterprise without too much hassle and it's still smaller then the Enterprise-B.

I'm curious what the size of the new Titan-A will be in Picard S3. I mean, the saucer is clearly based on the refit Enterprise, but I wonder if it will be the same scale as the SNW Enterprise.

Not to mention adding those gigantic windows on the saucer edge that makes the ship look even less like the TOS version.

Because they’d be the ones to decide if the ship gets changed or not?
When writing episodes long before that would happen? Even if they're already writing S3, why would anyone assume that's the last one, and that any writer would say a single word about the last episode?

You're the one who implied Eaves somehow knew that a refit would happen.

Unless I completely misunderstood that post.
