Spoilers The Strange New Worlds Starship Thread™

P+ version of 1080 is pretty blurry, even for the proper broadcast. I reckon they'll either say the ship name during the episode, or there will be some closer shots (I'm really hoping for this option).

What are the odds that They would do a story about the original series U.S.S. Defiant actually returning from the mirror universe? :wtf:
Slim, as it would take place before the actual U.S.S. Definat disappeared.

So it would almost be like Them making Pike completely aware of his tragic, life-ending accident?

Yeah, you're probably right, would never happen. ;)
I mean, you're talking about an entire crew here.
Pike also willingly made a sacrifice by learning of his future so he could save the universe.

The crew is long dead before the ship is even found by Kirk or the Mirror Universe.

I know it's an extremely long shot, I was just riffing.
I'd really rather it be the U.S.S. Constitution. :techman:

But the crew dying on the Defiant happens in the future in SNW. So if they are aware that it is going to happen they can change it. Decommission the ship, change it's name, whatever.

Now I know it was mentioned in Discovery S1 as ending up in the mirror universe, but I don't remember if the full details were known to the crew of Discovery. If they were, then why doesn't Starfleet do something to prevent it's fate? In fact, they could have kept the identity of the ship unknown in the show, they just had to mention the a ship had come from the Prime universe. We'd know it was the Defiant, Burnham and the rest didn't need to know the actual ship.

If it is the Constitution I wonder what the hull number will be? There are a lot of Connies with numbers in the 1600 range. It would be nice if they made it 1600 or something similar.

Now I know the Constellation was 1017 but I was thinking perhaps it was a prototype, and then later upgraded for service. It fits that the Crossfield class have numbers in the 10xx range. Perhaps Starfleet went through a phase of using numbers in the 10xx range for experimental ships. Or maybe there is some other reason.

Of course it could just be the Enterprise in some Timey-Wimey incident that gets reset by the end of the episode.

For the same reason Discovery was classified, time travel, plus all the Mirror Universe stuff was classified in Season 1.

I hope it's a whole new Connie not mentioned in those TOS 12 starship lists, just to annoy everyone. And it's registry starts with a 9 or something.

Yeah, people get hung up on that line too much. There were 12 ships 'like her' as of that episode. That doesn't mean there were never more than 12 ships before that. Some could have been lost, destroyed or retired because of damage.

Temporal Prime Directive?
"I have made a vow never to reveal information with the potential to alter your destiny. Your path is yours to walk, and yours alone."

And since there were no main characters on board, no "that being said..."

I've been thinking for a year or two now that we're looking at two production blocks of Constitution-class ships at minimum. Maybe three? Eagle(956) and Constellation(1017) were a part of the first block. Enterprise 1701 was part of the second.

There's that TOS writers' bible quote saying that the "starship class" pre-dated the Enterprise's commissioning by fifteen years or so...?

Yeah, that could work, I don't think the Constitution as NCC-1700 was ever confirmed.

perhaps only 12 were kitted out for long duration exploration with all the science labs, sensors etc. They would need larger crews. The others may have a more general purpose fit.
