The Stargate Franchise - A First Timer's Watchthrough

I also really liked the interactions between Simeon and Greer and look forward to seeing how that rivalry builds. What is happening to Chloe is becoming rather interesting. They think she is under alien influence (From Space) and try to cure her via the interface chair. That doesn't work and it looks like Rush might bring Chloe in on his little secret. She wasn't all that interesting last season. She's very interesting this season.

There is definitely an ongoing story arc that builds up to the midseason two parter, "Resurgence" & "Deliverance".

IMO, "Cloverdale" is ok but the next string of episodes, "Trial & Error", "Greater Good", "Malice" ""Visitation", "Resurgence" & "Deliverance" and finally "Twin Destinies" are all excellent episodes with some big plot developments. They might be SGU at its best.

In fact, "Twin Destinies" might be my favorite SGU episode.

The scenes with Eli and his mom were beautiful, especially allowing the mom to come on board Destiny.
It's rather unfortunate for Eli that out of the loved ones all the Destiny crew back on Earth, his mother is the only one who refuses to accept that a complete stranger walking up to her is in fact her son. That was one of the problems I had with the stone storyline, everyone accepts way too easily that complete strangers are friends/family/spouses/whatever, to the extent that some go ahead and have sex with them, despite being in another body. So it was nice for once that someone didn't buy it right away. Though when the solution was to have Eli's mother make a stone trip to Destiny, I kind of wonder why they didn't just have everyone do that? Have their family members stone swap over to Destiny, which might have been easier to regulate than the way it's done. Though I guess having the Destiny crew able to come to Earth also serves a double purpose of benefitting their mental health by being sort of home, and in the case of spouses swapping over to Destiny, that might make the aftermath of the conjugal visits awkward.
I never cared much for "Cloverdale"
IMO, Cloverdale is probably SGU's worst. Or at least I remember thinking so back when it aired. I don't think I ever rewatched it.

I think this is why for the most part I don't really like the Stone storyline. For one, it's a little confusing, but most of all how it was used in the beginning just felt really wrong, especially for various sex scenes. I think lately, and Eli's Mom was the best use for it, it's gotten better because it's been used in a more realistic (As realistic as communication stones can be) way.

I do like when the stones are used to allow an expert on Earth to help on Destiny like when Amanda Perry came to Destiny to help out with the FTL problem. I think that is a good use of the stones. We do see this use more in S2.

That's what I'm saying. The last few episodes have shown a practical use for the stones. Early on, they just served as an annoying plot convenience.

Well we really only saw, two or three family members other than Eli's mum, and even then, we only saw the bit after they've had everything explained to them, signed the NDA etc. IIRC Camile's partner/wife (I forget if they were married or not) was clearly unsure at first. Young's wife was also rather incredulous, though given how poor terms they were on it's hard to read. That aside, it's unclear how much she knew about the program ahead of time, but clearly she knew enough to be aware of his affair with Johansen, specifically.
It's a bit of a contrivance to be sure, but necessary to get to the actual point of the scene.

With Eli's mum on the other hand she wasn't cleared and Eli just basically jumped her with the information, right when she's in a depressive low point no less. So no wonder she wasn't buying it.

Yeah, they seemed a little too eager in the first season to go straight for the personal drama at home when there was more than enough on Destiny. I got sick of that thread real fast.

Question about the episode "Hope":
They mention that the SGC knows a race that can download a person's conscience into a new host body. Was that a reference to SGA's "Ghost in the Machine" where we saw Atlantis had the replicator lab that could create biological bodies and download the replicator conscience into the new bodies?

I assume they were talking about the Asgard.

I thought she was cleared? Wasn't there an episode in the first season where Eli was worrying over how to explain how he was in someone else's body to her because "Star Trek confuses her"? Though in the end he just claimed to be a colleague of Eli's named Phillip Fry.

Camille allowed Eli's mom to use the stones. Eli thanked her for it.

Well, yes, that was arranged after Eli had so much trouble convincing his mother he really was her son, but earlier, he was authorized to tell her about Destiny and the stones, going back to the first season. Indeed, I think the only one we see on Earth who never had clearance to learn about that stuff was Lt. Scott's ex who he had a child with.

Might be Harlan's androids from "Tin Man" and "Double Jeopardy." An engineering team tried to get Mitchell to support funding their project to make a robot SG-team member.

Cloverdale is one of the worst episodes in the entire history of the franchise. It's this and Emancipation competing for worst all time.

Cloverdale

I was bored by this episode. It felt like a carbon copy of SG-1's Changeling or Atlantis's The Real World. Matt is infected by an organism and has hallucinations of a life on earth, where he and Chloe are getting married. I'm not sure I would call it the worst of the franchise, or even worse of SG: U, but It really did feel like a nothing episode.

Either way, the point being that she didn't know and Eli jumped it on her while in someone else's body.

Yeah, this is one I skip when doing a re-watch. Seems like it was a fun change for the actors to do something different and i get that, but it's a tedious watch IMO. That Scott is by a mile my least favourite character doesn't help either.
