Just got a chance to watch this and it was such a joy watching Pat Mills and Dave Gibbons just grinning at the sight of their creations coming to life. Even as someone hasn't read the original comic (but already familiar with the characters thanks to Big Finish), I really loved seeing them relishing this new reality. David fanboying about a comic he read as a kid was also delightful.

I also really enjoyed seeing how the Wrarths came to life, complete with the strange leg stilts the actors used, not unlike what Doug Jones wears when playing Saru.

Lastly, seeing Bernard Cribbins taking part in the script read makes me think that perhaps all of his scenes have been cut due to incompletion after all. I'm still holding onto hope we'll get to see him in the remaining specials, but it still sucks. :(

It's a live commentary on iPlayer. I can't watch it but here's a small bit

Much obliged. I figured that was the case but glad to have it confirmed.

Still...that scene screamed Toymaker.

Isn't the Rani (allegedly) slated to show up in Ncuti's run? Could be her. If it's her at all.
It's been allegedly the Rani since a decade and a half ago! ;)

So this is based on a comic strip with the 4th Doctor. I now have to track it down in TPB.

I mean there was that one horse named Susan during season 6.

But realistically, hopefully soon. In one of the 60th specials would be ideal, I think.

I can't imagine they"ll cut him out completely, but we shall see.

I just have one question. When's Susan ever going to come back?
Fandom has been asking that for years, long before the 50th anniversary. But I'm more disappointed it took so long to get Ian back and yet that wasn't even in a scene with The Doctor (and I really wanted him to meet The Eleventh Doctor in particular).

I can't imagine they"ll cut him out completely, but we shall see.
That's what I've figured/hoped. We'll see soon enough.

Is it okay to post a panel of the strip?

I thought the production was top notch; I can hardly wait to see the next special. My BFF and my family didn't like it at all but I thought it was fine.

Late to the party but here are my thoughts!

I gave it a B+ but I really loved it!

The highlights are that there were a number of great character moments and it was a boatload of fun. Having Donna regain her memories is fantastic. Tennant is different than 10. He's an older, more thoughtful, less neurotic version of 10. Really liked the portrayal and the subtle changes.

No real negatives. I just didn't rate it higher than B+ because the plot was a bit thin and the ending was a magical solution (intentionally) like Journey's End . . and I despise JE's ending!

But it was a romp and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

So great to have Doctor Who back and can't wait for the second special!

man it’s really not that deep, I just meant i’m glad to have them back? i’m a fan of tennant and tate and am happy to have them back on the show. apologies for mistyping but there’s no need to drag me for it lol
Don't mind the rude poster. We're glad to have you here. And, yes, it was absolutely wonderful having Tennant and Tate back together! :techman:

So one thing that I've seen floating on the web (which I think is bizarre) are the complaints that TSB is "too whimsical." This is the same writer that brought us farting aliens in the Slitheen, I think whimsy should be taken as a matter of course :D
That was the "spoiler" headline review said last week. I mean, this is Doctor Who for crying outloud! The only time to complain is when it's not whimsical.

I was just thinking that the line about not knowing how to let it go is actually a callback to “I don’t want to go” and 14’s last line after deciding to regenerate to allow 15 to appear will be something like “it’s ok, I want to go”.

I've seen comments that Rose's shed having Lupari and Cyberman plushies means Donna must have had off-screen adventures involving them, but this forgets that both Donna and Rose had Time Lord knowledge (specifically, the Doctor's) via the Metacrisis...
