I've seen comments that Rose's shed having Lupari and Cyberman plushies means Donna must have had off-screen adventures involving them, but this forgets that both Donna and Rose had Time Lord knowledge (specifically, the Doctor's) via the Metacrisis...
In the case of the Lupari, I've also seen it suggested that the image of them originated from a repressed Fugitive Doctor memory buried somewhere in the Tenth Doctor's subconscious.

I get my trans Neighbour's mail now and then, and the Government is still deadnaming her, but it only costs three hundred dollars to change your name at cityhall, so I saw her dead name, and I thought to myself, "oh really, that's hardly dynamic" but now a few months later, I can't for the life of me recall what that dead name is, because it's really not important.

I would have just let Transgender Rose be just that.

I *like* the idea of sharing the regen/metacrisis energy with her child be a solution, but in this case, and with that clumsy ‘let it go’ scene it’s like ‘oh, kid is trans because Time Lord shit’ which is… kind of demeaning in a way. Is River bi because she is sort-of-kind-of a Time Lord?

Like I say, it’s cool, especially with the garden shed Tardis etc (ripped from Amy to an extent) so it *works* but it also kind of doesn’t work in terms of the hammering in dialogue.
Do we need a magical/SF explanation for why a character is trans in the 21st Century? Way back in the early nineties we had Christopher (hope I am remembering their name right) who was very interesting as an SF created non-binary/trans character (Love and War if you are wondering, and very similar to a character in The Ballad of Halo Jones) but that was… achieving different goals. As a result of this there *still* has yet to be a straight Trans character. No shenanigans.

I mean, Donna can literally say ‘Doctor Who made my kid Trans’ and when paired with the ‘appearances of cuteness can be decieving’ and the whole transformative powers of the Psychadelic Sun stuff from The Meep, it leads to a very mixed up subtext (very Chibnall Era in fact) going on.

Just messed up the landing a bit, with a swerve into clumsy writing. Oh, and Sean is written pretty badly too. Needing more time in the pot, which is ironic, all things considered. Maybe giving some of that exposition at the end to The Doctor him/themself would have actually been wise for a start.

You're thinking way too much about this. Honestly, I see the "let it go" bit as proof that non-full Time Lords can actually let go of the Gallifrean (spell?) genes or what not in a way a Time Lord can't. Like River Song gave away all of hers in Kill Hitler! to save the Doctor. I don't really see it as vividly different, in fact I kinda see it as the same thing.

Giving the energy away would be fine — heck, the Doctor is in their first day after regen, Tennant can go all Missy face energy transfer and get a slap from Donna. They can give the energy back.
That isn’t what happens, and what is explicitly said is ‘you can’t do it cos you’re a boy’ basically. Which is silly, because we have seen the eleventh and twelfth doctors throw regen energy about Willy-Nilly too.
Like I said, clumsy.
And yeah, I do think about it too much (though it actually took seconds whilst watching) because that is how stories like this as consumed these days, and have been for some time.
It’s why people like Cartmel *thought* about the subtext in their time on the show.

So this is based on a comic strip with the 4th Doctor. I now have to track it down in TPB.

Don't forget the audio adaptation featuring Tom Baker from Big Finish. I'm relistening to it at the moment. About half way through so far.

No one's talking about how the 'cracks to the molten lava' that formed when the Meep tried taking off magically repair themselves when the engine shuts off? Forget all the the other stuff in the episode -- that's the most unbelievable part to me.

It bugged me at the time, and would have been a much better use for all the spare glowy stuff. Not least as there could have been a throwaway line about how the potholes had been fixed or something.

I didn't see anything in "The Star Beast" that suggested, much less required, Rose being trans to have been a result of Donna's meta-crisis energy overload or for that matter any other aspect of her adventures with the Doctor.

Did I miss something?

I only saw it stated that Donna having a child provided additional capacity for Donna, with Rose, to handle the meta-crisis energy and avoid an overload. As far as I saw, Rose being trans is just who Rose is, period.

My problem is she is supposed to be 15, and she doesn’t look remotely 15.

They outright stated it in dialogue. Due to the non-binary nature of the Doctor or some such. (Right around the same time as explaining that as he’s made of puppy dog tails he couldn’t possibly understand) Roses hobbies are also a result of the met-crisis, and both her parent given name and identity name too, as explained elsewhere.
Literally *everything* about her is a result of the meta-crisis juju.

And that’s what I mean. Though the ‘share with baby’ is a neat way of resolving that aspect of Donna’s story, it was also woven too much into Rose being Trans, to the point that being Trans itself is in this case not a human trait, but due to Time Lord stuff. Undercutting it completely.

Never seen 'Beverly Hills 90210'? Or 'Riverdale'. Or pretty much anything starring teenagers ever?

Hell, 30 year old Ncuti Gatwa is supposed to be a teenager in 'Sex Education'.

Ever see Freaks and Geeks or My So Called Life? How about Sarah Jane Adventures?

They weren’t even trying with this casting. She looks like a grad student. She could be on Alias.
