I knew studying Czech and Slovak back in 1994 was going to come in handy one of these days.

I could put it next to my copy of Dobrý voják Svejk.
One of my characters in Echoes of Coventry, Ensign Nemeckova, was named after one of my primary language instructors. If I get to keep writing Trek in the future, expect more Czech and Slovak natives to slip into Starfleet.

Yeah, I guess that would work. I just figured that if they were getting a tour of the new Federation flagship, they must be fairly high up in the UFP higherarchy(sp), and IMO someone that important would most likely be from a member world.
Madeleine Albright was born in Czechoslovakia, which was not a member of the United States of America, but that didn't preclude her from becoming Secretary of State of the United States (although it did exclude her from the line of presidential succession). Where someone is "from" is not a singular question -- people can be born one place and then become citizens of another place. Albright was born in Prague but was "from" Denver from age 11 onward.
[ I don't wantto give this story away but there are alot of but there are nice character moments for Barclay as he saves the day with help from Ro and Lxwana.I really have enjoyed reading all these stories so far. And want to tell all the authors thank you for all these great stories.

Jeff Ayers has reviewed The Sky's the Limit at TrekWeb. The review is limited to out-of-four-star ratings for each story and a brief plot description -- I personally was hoping for something more in-depth, but I'm also pleased with the 3.5 stars that "Four Lights" got.

Thanks very much, Reanok! Glad you enjoyed it.Suicide note by Geoff trowbridge takes place on Romulous during the events & aftermath In the Pale Moonlight. We see Picard meeting with Admiral Jarok's wife & Daughter. I was glad to see Picard meeting them and the discusioon of the events that transpired. A nice look into how his family coped wih what happened after jarok defected and the message Picard delivered to them. I really liked this Story alot.
Thanks so much for the kind words, Reanok!Four lights by Keith R.A. DeCandido is a tour de force story that takes place during the Dominion war that packs a punch. We see how the war is affecting Picard protecting a planet from being invaded by Dominion troops and the loss of so many Starfleet ships and crew.Enterprise is called to another scetor for another assignment, when they get a distress call from a Cardassian ship which has been badly damaged. They beam the survivors onto Enterprise one of them is Gul Madred.I have to say Keith pulled out all the stops with this story and that it's a very powerful story. When old wounds are ripped open how does Picard deal with an enemy like Gul Madred. I don't want to give it away but it gives you alot to think about long after you finish reading this story.I'll just say Madred is in for a suprise.

A few more stories to review Friends with sparrows by Christopher L. Bennett a Data story that has a linugist specialist Dr. Sofia Borges who wants Dta to alter his emotion ship to change it's language structure to communicate with the aliens we saw in the episode Darmok.Well complications ensue and go from bad to worse negotiations go wrong.Data has problems with the changes to his programming and the problems have to be resolved with help fro Deanna and Geordi have to help Data. I won't spoil the stories ending but it was nice to see Data dealing with his problems and finding a resolution to them.
