The Silence in season 5?

I came across this video on youtube last night. I thought most of the "sightings" were iffy at best until I got to "The Big Bang" scene. At first I thought those were just shadows behind the sarcophagi - until I saw the one move!! I never noticed that before, and I've seen this episode so many times now.

Also googled and found this post.

OK, this is creepy.

I seem to recall someone pointing out the cloaked figure before but I'm not entirely convinced it's actually a Silence (and not some random statue). I think sometimes fans get a little bored these days with the Internet while waiting for new episodes so they start looking for clues that aren't there.

As for the movement, I think that's just a production error like the mysterious hand in a certain LOST episode with Kate's horse.

I don't think I've ever had that much time on my hands ;)

Be interesting if the Silence were around even then, but I think most of those things shown are coincidence. As for the figure moving...well it could have been just a continuity error...but then again some people thought that about the Doctor having his jacket back on in Flesh and Stone as well:eek:

Well, a number of things that happened early in season 5 were referenced in the season finale, so it's certainly possible there have been 'sightings' of The Silence. But I'm not sure any of these are legitimate.

For one thing, I'm pretty sure the first example was supposed to be one of the cloaked soldiers/evil ceramic doll things that were watching Liz 10. I don't know about the TARDIS door closing, though. Lastly I thought the 'cloaked figure' was the shadow of the sarcophagus, but it could be something else.

I thought the 'cloaked figure' was the shadow of the sarcophagus at first too. Look at these pictures though, their outlines are too sharp to be shadows:

Click on the images to enlarge them; you can see shadows on the wall behind the cloaked figures themselves! Also, how would you explain the one at the edge of the screen that you got a brief glimpse of moving?

That is indeed too strange to not mean anything. Whether it is a reference to this particular monster is uncertain, but I have no doubt that we'll encounter them again. It's definitely not a shadow (the second pic, the "shadow" has a shadow).

Upon further inspection, I think you're right. Could just be another statue or sarcophagus, though. Or maybe not.

I screencapped the sequence in the museum. The "shape" behind the sarcophagus (not the shadow) in the first image just looks like the back part of the sarcophagus. In the others, it is most definitely separate.

Also a video clip showing something moving at the right side of the frame at :10 seconds in the clip (13:30 in the episode). This is probably just a goof though.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the back part of the Sarcophagus. Didn't realize it was open.

The other thing seems like a goof. Although it does look like someone wearing a cloak, which makes me wonder.

^ Maybe the top of the sarcophagus just tipped forward and they didn't want to reshoot the scene.

There's lots of obvious goofs all through the series.

The Silence have been in Doctor Who since the Hartnall era --- it's just everybody forgets when they see them. ;)

I reckon the silence is actually a very annoyed Galifreyian Librarian following the doctor around telling him to SHH! and pay for a book he's had for AGES

I think there's a big difference if they're the Silence or the Silents.

Silence will fall implies some kind of large scale apocolypse Silents will fall implies them being defeated...at least to me!

Based on what we've seen in the first part (namely River saying that the tunnels cover the entire planet and are centuries old) and what the BBC America Part 2 trailer just said ("We aren't fighting an invasion, we are leading a revolution." and "They can influence human behavior. 'Kind of like hypnotic suggestion?'") it makes me think that The Silence have been on Earth as long as if not longer than humans and have been running an invisible empire with humans as their unknowing slaves/subjects.

Or like Tralfamadorians just sending a message about spare parts?
