No, no, no. You've got me all wrong. I realize that ID4 had some serious problems - after the fact. But see, the thing is that I don't go to movies to pick them apart. I go to enjoy myself. That is exactly what I fear. The feeling that I had walking out of ID4. Jesus. That was one craptastic film. Mindless action and expensive special effects. It is absolutely one of the worst films ever made. I shudder to think that some people hope that Trek XI will be like that.
Sure, you realize things afterward - or have them pointed out to you - like that the AIs in The Matrix could have saved themselves a lot of time and trouble by powering themselves with the electrical impulses of cows kept happy with simulated 4 bit grass. But if you're like me, while you're watching it, all you care about is "I know kung-fu."
Not me. For me, what was grabbing me was a scantily clad Vivica Fox, "I know you didn't just shoot that green shit at me!", the president from nuBSG dying tragically (surprise!), and Randy Quaid's "I'm back!" Oh, and major landmarks getting blown-the-f***-up.Yeah, but in ID4's case stupidity was not the kind that would be pointed out afterwards, it was grabbing you by the collar and hitting you at the face repeatedly during the whole length of the movie.

I think it was more because Pike either served with George Kirk at one time, or simply because George was a hero who died in the line of duty, and everyone knew about him. Jim doesn't seem to be anybody special at that point.I liked what Pike said prior to his "your father was captain" line:
"I couldn't believe it when the bartender told me who you are..."
It certainly establishes that James Kirk is somebody of note and reputation well before becoming the hero was was destined to be.

I think the emotion comes from the moment Kirk sits in the big chair. His head is bowed.
It's like he's thinking, "I'm humbled, I'm scared... but I have to take this moment, and live up to it, and get it right."
It would have made #1 if they'd included Captain Robau. The short-sighted fools!A.F.I. have just released their list of 100 best movies of all time.

I liked the Star Trek VI teaser trailer narrated by Christopher Plummer that showed clips from both the movies and the tv shows and invites the audience to join them for one last adventure.

Yes.
It is a fantastic teaser that one.
Yeah, I loved that teaser. That one really got an emotional response out of me.I liked the Star Trek VI teaser trailer narrated by Christopher Plummer that showed clips from both the movies and the tv shows and invites the audience to join them for one last adventure.
...Trek needs some real, vivid characterization, and I get the feeling that's what this movie will deliver...
My only complaint about the music is that it's too synthesized and I would prefer orchestral score to a synthesized one. I think Star Trek needs to stay with the orchestral quality of the past movies. So, I hope that the trailer score is just that...for the trailer!
