The Shannara Chronicles

THe Reaper is the one who killed off the other Chosen ones. And since Ambere wasn't there with the othes she was safe for the moment.
I'm pretty sure that's incorrect. It was the Changeling that's been murdering everyone in and around the elven fortress.

You're right, my fault then there's only been two leaves to have fallen from the tree in the premiere, so it was the Changeling.

I get the feeling that only a handful of us are familiar with Brooks' novels. Just curious to know who here has the series, or part of it.

I do. I've got every book up through Wishsong (including the The Word and the Void Trilogy), and every one of them is signed (although I was only able to get 6 of them personalized).

I had been reading The Gypsy Morph, but don't currently know where my copy went.

I'm wrapping up the pilot right now. Wow! This looks like a movie! Where the hell did MTV get the money and the wherewithal to spend so much on a fantasy tv series?! As for the story itself, it wasn't the most original thing in the world but I was definitely drawn in and will keep watching.

According to Wikipedia, The Defenders of Shannara (current trilogy) is a set-up for what will be the final trilogy in the series. Which likely means the narrative is continuing even further into the future. I had hopes that Terry would've written another prequel trilogy to better connect the events of 'Legends' with 'First King'.

I'm currently reading Witch Wraith, the final installment to The Dark Legacy of Shannara.

Should I mention that Ivana Baquero's Spanish accent slips through every once in a while, yet her "father" and fellow Rovers always sound American. :)

I've always thought it would have to be hard to have to consistently talk with a false accent like the actors on these kinds of shows. I'm amazed more of them don't slip more often.

Especially when the actors are from different countries. In GOT we have Dinklage (American), Headey (British) and Coster-Waldau (Danish) playing siblings.

^Along the same lines, three out of the four main Mikaelson siblings on The Originals are from different countries. Joseph Morgan (Klaus) is English, Claire Holt (original body Rebekah) is Australian, Daniel GIllies (Elijah) was born in Canada, but lived in New Zealand for most of his life, and Riley Voelkel (Freya) was born in the US and spent most of her life in Canada. Despite living most of his life in NZ, Gillies has a Canadian or US accent, unless it's really thick I have trouble telling the difference between the two.

While I'm not really bothered by the accents, it does seem strange that they don't let Poppy Drayton speak with her own accent. It would make her seem... More exotic, perhaps.

One of the most extreme cases I've come across of multiple actors using fake accents was in NBC's 2013 Dracula. Let's see... Jonathan Rhys-Myers (Irish) did American and English accents (though why a Transylvanian count would use an English accent by default was not explained). Jessica De Gouw (Australian), Victoria Smurfit (Irish), and Katie McGrath (Scottish) used English accents. Nonso Anozie (English) used an American accent. Thomas Kretschmann (German) played the Dutchman Van Helsing. I believe the only main role where the actor and the character had the same nationality was Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Jonathan Harker, but I think even he used a more upper-class accent than his own.

She's not the only elf though. Hard to be exotic when surrounded by people just like you.

But she is royalty, which would set her apart from the rest, one would think.
