The Sarah Jane Adventures S3 Discussion Thread (UK Pace)

Wow, this show has really stepped up this season. I'm impressed. Compared to barely watchabble stories like 'Secrets of the Stars', and the evil clown one, its like night and day. They're writing for a more sophisticated audience and I definately approve.

Some great spooky stuff here. The scene with Rani and Clyde in the fountain storeroom in particular had me on the edge. This is one I can definately see sending kids behind the couch.

So did anyone else catch themselves thinking 'President Borusa!' whenever the magician turned up?

Can't wait til tomorrow!

I havwe to admit I did!

Great creepy episode, even if I can't take Floella Benjamin seriously as a scientist (sorry but I keep expecing her to get Big Ted, Little Ted or Gemmima out*)

They did a good job in making this creepy without making it too scary, nevertheless I jumped a few times so I'm sure a lot of children might have hopefully been spooked by this.

The only, minor, downside I have with this is the not too surprising notion that it's alien tech not really the supernatural. Having Sarah Jane, who's seen all sorts of crazy stuff over the years, basically being so disbeiving of the supernatural seems odd, although I ge tthe logic if she's never seen anything that couldn't be explained scientifically. I guess the only Who show that's been able to get away with the real supernatural it's Torchwood (I think)

Anyway, really cool haunted house story and can't wait for part 2.

(*For none UK cits and those a lot younger, Floella used to be a presenter on Playschool, a young kiddies tv show from a long time ago so basically my impressions of her were formed when I was 4 or 5!) Have to say she looks good for her age!

By the way anyone see Rani's dad on Spooks last night? I'm never not taking him seriously again!!

^Rani's Dad also got up to no good with Billie Piper in "Secret Diary of a Call Girl".

It would be nice if Rani's parents were less like caricatures. The thing I miss most about Alan and Maria is definitely Alan. Once he found out the truth, he was pretty cool.

when did Torchwood do real Supernatural? as for Sarahs attitudes well its something she gets from the Doctor who does not believe in magic, and its not like Sarah Jane has not dismissed the supernatural before on the show.

Its funny this is a great episode, and Ghost Machine (maybe the best episode of Torchwood S1) were both great episodes, both dealing with what would appear to be the Supernatural.

The faries episode primarily, although I guess it could be said they were an alien species. Also the circus episode maybe?

Thats the one unfortunate thing about this season. The stories have been great, but Rani's folks have been reduced to the stereotypical clueless adults. :( I hope they cut them both a break by the end of this series, as I really like them both.

fair poiunts, I had assumed the supernatural myths of fairy's had grown up around the "Fairy's" seen in this episode, they could be anything really, nothing to say they are supernatural Fairy's however.

As for "From Out of the Rain" im not even sure how science can explain living creatures being trapped in film, yet alone anything else.

Still as a general rule the Whoverse is not really about ghosts & the supernatural.

Pretty good - not hugely original (the resolution was the same as in Masque Of Mandragora) but the writer knows his ghost/haunted house lore!

So far last week's ep, with the Doctor, is still the weakest of the season, being a massive damp squib despite TenDoc being good and appearing at exactly the moment I'd have had him appearing at. Though I don't think anything could have lived up to the hype.

I thought it was a good ending, and im pleased to see they resisted the urge to go with "everybody lives" as I feared they might do.

Interesting to note that the entire episode was shot on location.

Slight disappointment after yesterday's episode but still very enjoyable. Didn't think the acting from Lord Marchwood (sp?) was any great shakes and thought the coda couldn't have been more predictable. But really glad to see a whole couple of episodes completely away from the attic, and while I didn't miss Luke as such I wouldn't want him to be absent for many more episodes.

Clyde is fast becoming the star of the show though, so they'd better bring Luke back pronto (and K9 too).

There was also those DW episodes that had the Doctor and Rose run into the actual Devil. I don't know if that really qualifies as supernatural, but I think it's safe to say it definitely wasn't your run-of-the-mill alien from another planet; it was more totally "other", which I reckon could apply to those fairies and the carnival people in Torchwood as well.

I find SJA intensely unrealistic. Here are Rani and Clyde, two fourteen year olds constantly going off to "look for clues"... and they always really are looking for clues!

Lord Marchwood was played by the same guy who's playing Zod in the new season of Smallville. Though I'm not sure why I watch that any more... I frankly can't believe they axed Sarah Connor and yet Smallville gets to keep going. But that's a thread for another forum :)

I thought I recognised him. Bit of a difference between Mason in Dead Like Me to this...

Lets save that sort of thing for the fanfic writers, shall we? :)

Anjli played a hottie those over sexed miscreants from the Inbetweeners were trying to pull almost 3 years ago. It's ridiculous to think that anyone age appropriate wouldn't tell her how beautiful she is and make a run for first base.

The back and forth between the kids was great, but the villain and the story was hum drum.
