The Sarah Jane Adventures S3 Discussion Thread (UK Pace)

Well of course Clive would love to hit that like the fist of an angry God. But they're not going to come right out and say it on a tv show for eight year olds. :) Hell even DW has barely made it past onscreen kissing.

So ny thoughts on the theory bouncing around GB that the evil wizard was really a Timelord?

if the master can accidentally turn himself into a tiny doll sized person then I can admit that that hypothesis has the faintest shred of credibility.

One of the more enjoyable SJA stories, I think. Very Scooby-Doo in some respects, but no less fun for that.

And this must be the fourth time I've encountered the Stone Tape theory in a DW-related story. That's getting to be a bit too frequent for something with so little plausibility, even if it is from a Nigel Kneale story.

yes I didnt really buy the "stone tape" theory as Prof Rivers was giving it, its been used on CSI once as well.

Mona Lisa's Revenge Part 1 - A shocking drop in quality, to easily the worst episode this season. Maybe I'm spoiled by having coincidentally watched Sapphire & Steel story 4 last week...

Nice to see George from Globelink News has a new career since the station shut down, but dear god what were they thinking with Suranne Jones? Is she, like, supposed to be Catherine Tate's stunt double or something- she came over as a really bad Tate tribute act... (and by this I mean a Tate-as-sketch-comedian, not Tate as Donna)

if there is one thing I love about SJA is how it manages to recycle elements from either DoctorWho or earliers into the plot, to save on budget, for example this week we are treated to the return of the "International Gallery" and Plant of the Dead was refrenced, which actually asks the questions of how did the gallery after having lost one priceless object ever get the Mona Lisa. Also I understand there is some history between the Doctor & Mona Lisa I hope that is touched on at some point, or Classic Who fans are going to go crazy. However know ive typed it maybe they shouldnt clear that up, just for the comedy value.

After the lack of K9 last week I was disappointed that he didn't feature in this episode.

I quite like the fact that it was Sarah Jane lite, however Cylde is fast (or may have already) replaced Luke as my favourite character, getting a map (until its needed) may not be how the Doctor does something, but its still a smart thing to do.

Moving on to the Mona Lisa herself, ive never been really keen on "people trapped in paintings" episodes, and I did not like how they wrote Mona Lisa, but really its not like we know anything about the real Mona Lisa to compare with.

I'll tell you what we do know about the real Mona Lisa. She was not from Lancashire (or whatever accent Suranne Jones was putting on). Why the HELL did they make that decision about how Jones played her? Absolutely awful episode with zero promise of a good part 2.

Why would they bring up the Mona Lisa's connections to the Doctor? I mean, if you don't get a Rani namedrop when the Doctor is around, you've pretty much screwed on most other possible fanboy references before you even start.

This one was about living drawings, like Fear Her. This one was also dreadful, like Fear Her.

Went in not expectign much after readign comments here, but was actually rather pleasantly surprised. A nice light comic feel to the story, just like CoD. Didn't really mind Mona's slightly ott acting. DW's always at its best when the villains are larger than life. Some nice character moments for Sarah Jane, and it's great to see the kids doing a solo story. Tho blimey, I never took Clyde to be an art geek. :D I'm actually kind of looking forward to tomorrow.

Okay, I don't recall City of Death that well, but was the actual Mona Lisa painting really involved in the story? Apart from a couple of scenes set at the Louvre? And didn't the Doctor make a passing reference to 'That awful woman' when he visited Leonardo's studio?

And y'know I think I forgave them for the Rani thing, since he already knew her name. He may very well have reacted the first time he heard it offscreen.

that presents a whole other question, why did he already know Ranis name?

Luke sure, Cylde Sarah Jane could have mentioned him in Journey's End, but she didnt know Rani then

moving on is it just me or was the gallery when the Mona Lisa was displayed, remind anyone else of the room where Rose looked at the view of Earth during The End of the World, or possibly the empire state building in DiM/EotD

Thats a damn good question now that you mention the Rani problem. Wow...

Perhaps theres to be an unseen adventure in Sarah/Rani's future, but in Ten's past? Might explain how he finds out about the wedding. :)

so are we about to make of the Sarah Jane Adventures version of S6b?

However you make a good point, it is possible that there is a time when theDoctor meets a future Sarah Jane Smith (& Rani) before he meet them in The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith. He did talk about them going on to do good things (ok I dont have the quote to hand, he might have used the word "wonderful" )

As for how he found out about the wedding, ive wondered that as well, it could just be that the TARDIS was trying to land on Earth, and the fact that he could not get though lead him to investigate and found Sarah Jane at the heart of it.

I absolutely loathe the actress, so the moment I saw who it was I lost interest and turned over.

a slightly better 2nd episode, even if the story continues to seems totally imposable, nice use of K9 I felt, figures that Cylde drawing should help them out, not one bit surprised the puzzle box was important.

more importantly, I was glad to see Luke return to his former glory, but didnt miss Sarah Jane all that much.

The moment Luke insisted that Clyde draw the puzzle box, I knew that he would use it to bring alive Clyde's K9 drawing.

5/10 - which makes this still the weakest story of season 3 by a long way for me, but the episode a considerable improvement on the first half (which I give 2 or 3)

Clyde steals the show easily, and Suranne Jones seems to tone it down slightly, but is still the worst piece of miscasting and dire performance I've seen in two or three years... (of TV as a whole, I mean, not just in the Whoniverse!)

This classic who fan did go insane.

I kept waiting for her to turn around and for it to be written on her back "This is a fake" in black felt tip marker sharpe pen.

Ridiculous story.

Well I wasn't impressed with part one but I was doing stuff while it was on. Have to say I quite liked part two, and I loved Mona Lisa, delighgtfully over the top...as for the Lacanshire accent...well would have been too obvious to give her a French or Italian accent...besides she wasn't the model she was the paining.

Clyde brilliant as usual...is it just me that actually finds Luke the weak link in this show? I don't think the kid playing him is anywhere near as good as Clyde of Rani (although in fairness he is lumbered with super geek persona)
