I'm going to guess that they knew they were only going to get one more season when the renewal came--which sucks because I've wanted to see a great live action version of this show since the comics were being published.
I'm glad we're more or less getting the overall story adapted. However, it's a shame that after going into the minutia for the first two arcs, all of the remaining arcs get far less coverage, including the longest one. I was especially looking forward
Worlds' End because of its setting, platform for other stories that build on the lore, and the grand foreshadowing of what's to come. I also get the sense
A Game of You is greatly reduced, if not entirely omitted and that was always my favorite arc.
I think you should just say "F***, Gaiman" and enjoy the show anyway. It's not like a novel where he is the only creator--there are hundreds of artists who have really dedicated themselves to this production and it shows. Think of them as you watch.*
*Please don't think I'm trying to pressure you. I can't watch anything with Bill Cosby and I refuse to watch Woody Allen movies, which I used to be a huge fan of. I understand your feelings and have some similar ones.

In a sense, it'll be easier to watch the show and even read
The Sandman than it'll ever be to read any of his prose, much of which I loved just as much or more. As one of the few people who ranked
Neverwhere as their favorite novel of his, I had been looking forward to the long-gestating sequel, but now, even if it ever sees the light of day, I would never buy or read it.
