News The Return of 90s Television: Murphy Brown is coming back, too. What show will return next?

Yeah, I know that. But for the most part, they only ever used "Wilson" to refer to the guy. The fact that they went and called him Wilson Wilson was an extension to the gag.

Still surprised nobody has thought of doing That 90s Show yet. Or maybe they have thought of it but the actors they need said no?

Well there was a brief flirtation with That 80s Show that tanked horribly, and The Goldbergs just did a back door pilot for a 1990 Something show featuring a bunch of minor character from the original show. It was really bad...

Imagine if they rebooted "The Critic", the 1994 (ABC) cartoon involving a cynical movie critic that also loathed remakes/reboots... (ABC canceled the show, citing it was too edgy... FOX bought it because they loved edgy shows (despite canceling them every few episodes), then tamed it and dumbed it down... why did they waste the money and time of all involved... though the joke involving "Hee-Haw: The Next Generation" was admittedly funny...)

First, it was Full House.

Then, it was Will & Grace.

Roseanne is next.

Mad About You might return, too.

Now it's Murphy Brown's turn.

Of all of the recent revivals, this one actually makes the most sense. Seeing Murphy Brown's take on today's news and political climate, particularly "fake news" and "alternative facts," could potentially be very amusing.

Murphy Brown
was such a good series, and the best (most deserving) of the revivals you posted.

To be fair, both Will and Grace and Roseanne deserved to come back. Sure the last few seasons were bad, but Murphy Brown wasn't the same by the first end either.

I have never met anyone who has gone 'I want Mad About You to return'! Hell I have never met anyone who admitted to watching that show. No one remembers it.

I meant in person. I just assume you are all Russia troll bots. ;)
What makes you think that, comrade?

Seriously, though, I remember Mad About You because I was a teenager who had a massive crush on Helen Hunt, so I enjoyed the show. You know what I miss? Moonlighting. Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd still look great. They could do a reunion.

Bringing it back after such a long absence is the lazy way of doing it. I'm more impressed by The Simpsons, which just never left! They got here the long way 'round! :D

I loved The Critic, mostly in the 2nd season. It was a great 1-2 punch with The Simpsons & The Critic. I'm surprised that the FOX run was only 10 episodes. It felt a lot longer than that. This one is probably my favorite episode:

I remember it. Granted, I didn't watch it much. But there are a few episodes that rank high among my all-time favorites, like the one where they all had to pretend to be Jamie in order to get the college professors to sign overrides to get her into their classes, the one where they're on a cruise ship and Jamie tells everyone that Paul is crazy, the one where Jamie & Lisa switch purses and then start to switch personalities, and the one that brought back Alan Brady from The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Personally, I want to get a time machine so I can prevent Phil Hartman's murder and leave open the possibility of a NewsRadio revival.

Wow! I hadn't seen that news. I loved that show as a kid.

I wonder how it'll work now. It was so very 90s.

Possibly unpopular opinion incoming:
Last summer I briefly tried to rewatch the classic Murphy Brown series from the start but it didn't hold - it just didn't stick for me and perhaps I bailed too early (episode 7 or 8) but the ridiculously long, numerous and pointless impromptu Motown dance-out sessions were irritating me to the point that I couldn't enjoy the rest of the show. It is said that those same musical interludes (and their licencing costs) are the reason the show was never officially released on physical media of any kind beyond season 1.

Music rights afterthoughts are bad: watching Married With Children DVDs with the grating elevator music they replaced Love and Marriage with is a crime against retro television.

The 90s are back. Girl Meets World, Fuller House. Teens today wear 90s style clothing (ugly jeans, layers of baggie clothes)
