If Marvel had the rights to certain characters, could a Punisher and Daredevil film or a Punisher and Ghost Rider film work? Could they coexist in the same world? Most likely DD than GR.

War Zone was brilliant. Well, brilliant in the sense that it's the best Punisher movie to date.

A Punisher movie needs to be ridiculous. The Punisher needs to be punching people through their faces and not pussyfooting around with fire hydrants.

There are a thousand other better revenge movies out there with thier stubbled heroes brooding around all over the place. Under the Marvel banner, there's so much milleage in the Punisher franchise that it's almost untrue, especially if you have cameos by other heroes/villains.

It's when they start taking it seriously that all the problems start.

Slightly off-topic: is the Punisher still a Vietnam vet in the modern comic books? Because he still was as of the circa 2000 Garth Ennis initial run. Cause how OLD would he have to be at this point to have fought in Vietnam?

^ I believe he still is a 'Nam vet, though I'm not sure about the Ultimate version. The movies of course have made him younger. Though making Punny 4.0 a period piece set in the late 1970s might be one way of distinguishing from the herd, as might casting an older actor who could convincingly be a Vietman vet.

In the Marvel Movie Universe Castle maybe could be a Vet of say Desert Shield, aka Gulf War I. He could have a beef with Stark, or his dad at least. Since Iron Man is becoming like a glue to the other movies I could see tying Castle somehow into a vendetta with Stark might play out.

Maybe the Mafia was dealing in stolen Stark tech that caused his family to get slain. Maybe during his military time Stark tech was being used against them even then thus exposing a history of 'double dealing', maybe even that was Stane. I see options.

I can't see how anybody could like Tomas Jane's Punisher over Ray Stevenson's.

I far prefer the Thomas Jane film over War Zone. The latter is closer to the comics in terms of the level of violence the Punisher uses, but in every other way it's a worse film.

Too each his own I guess but I can't sit through Thomas Jane's Punisher, I find it that unwatchable. Not to mention the terrible interpretations of Spacker Dave, Mr. Blimpo, Joan the Mouse & The Russian. I was like watching Popeye instead of the Punisher, not the mention the horrible cliche dialog. His motivation was wrong too. The Punisher is pro-active, not reactive. He doesn't sit hiding in a basement while innocent people are being tortured above. No wonder Garth Ennis drinks, I would too if they turned my dramatic story into a comedy.

I enjoyed all 3 movies so far. I don't know and don't care about comics, but the movies were good fun.

IIRC, Ultimate Punisher's military service hasn't been mentioned... unless it's addressed in the Ultimate Avengers 2 which i've not read yet.

Yeah, I watched all three back to back, and Jane's is the only one I wanted to turn the fuck off or at least skip through. Bored the shit outta me. Jane's Punisher had no presence and the story was a yawnfest. They tried to "humanize" him with his walking-cliche neighbors. I just wanted them to die.

The Punisher works best as a vigilante on the fringes of society, a man without any real friends to rely on, doing what needs to be done because no one else will.

Joan the mouse was a homely, meek shut in, not a model beautiful former battered women like Rebecca Romijin. Joan the mouse looks more like Holly Hunter in "Saving Grace". Joan & Blimpo were afraid to leave their own apartments because the world made them shut ins. Blimpo was a tragic character because he was eating himself to death to comfort his fears and insecurity. He wasn't comic relief.

Yes. The Punisher is one of the only characters that ages in real time in the Marvel Universe. In the main Punisher series, Frank Castle is pushing 60+ years old.

WTF They did the opposite. They took a darkly hilarious concept and tried to make a dramatic story out of it, which is partly why it failed.
