They all think they are special, and they all get stroppy when they find out about all the other many, many women.

If the Doctor has been there since 1967, that means that he was doubled for all the really abrassive timeline splits like when Martha walked the Master's Earth for a Year, and that whole turn "left stuff" with Donna when he died in sticking it to that smoking hot Spider-Lady.

What confusing behaviour for the lord of time to leave time derailed like that, unless 13 was helping out a little behind the scenes, and we never noticed.

Rory didn't trust the pandorica to be left idle, so why would the Doctor leave that Vault unattended for even less than a few seconds?

Because The Doctor has the ability to travel in time, Rory when protecting the Pandorica did not, so The Doctor could literally leave the Vault for days, weeks, months or even centuries and then show back up just after he left.

Yes. Which means that he would have been present for any divergencies, as well as being able to take part in any fun side adventures.

You just made my point. :)

That depends on if the shop was open or shut?

Although we saw with those magic mobile phones that he's keeping relative pace with a present (when he wants to), so the vault alarm will go off when it goes off whenever and where ever they happen to be.

Wait till you find out what a fanny is to Brits.

And why exactly DO Americans call them chips when they are clearly sliced rather than chipped?

We've been calling them chips since the early 1800s.. They were a variation on the popular fried potato sticks, because folks liked the thin slices.. They were a fad that caught on.. Before WWI, we called French Fries "German Fries" but then dropped the German from the name...

These days, a "crisp" now has a legal definition here in the states... For a chip to be a chip, it actually has to be a slice of potato.. But for things like Pringles, which are a fried, potato-based emulsification they are called "crisps"...

I don't care.. I just love me a hot plate of fries, French, German, I don't care.. Just give me some sirracha ketchup on the side and I'm in heaven...

ON TOPIC - I thought the episode was great... Bill was a little hard to understand at time, but that's my problem with the accent.. I'll adjust. Capaldi does not disappoint as the Doctor.. He is just SO GOOD in the role.. I wish he had better material, but this is definitely a good start to the season.. The previews look good so far.. I hope we get some real meat, more than filler for his swan song season..

Bill kept giving that pretty girl an extra helping of chips, until she wasn't pretty anymore (to Bill).

How long does that take?

Weeks or months?

Bill is shallow. :(
What the hell was that story? Did I get it right that the Doctor was leering at this hot woman every day and Bill gave her extra food? When has any Doctor (other than Pertwee) paid any attention to a pretty woman. Let alone this Doctor?

After living in Brussels for three years, I've become rather snobbish on this point: Give me Belgian frites with mayonnaise or nothing at all.

I know a few people here who like their fries with mayo, but I have never been a mayo fan (even the homemade, fancy stuff). I can't eat it with anything.. One of these days, I will get to Europe and enjoy some "real" pomme frites. :)

I used to eat a lot of mayo and fries, i'd also put mayo on my cheese burger. Then one time I threw up and that was the end of that..

The Doctor wasn't leering at her, Bill was. He had no idea who she was?

"She looked at you and you perved."

Ah. So not "you" the Doctor. "You" as in "one". That scene makes so much more sense. Thank you.

The more I think about "The Pilot," the more disappointed I am, because the episode establishes a set-up I'd really like to see explored -- the Doctor in academia.

I'd love to see the Doctor as a mad professor. I'd love to see him deal with department chairs and faculty meetings and academic conferences. I'd love to see the Doctor deliver lectures every week. I'd love to see the Doctor deal with his teaching assistants and have office hours and mentor colleagues.

Oh, we can have Bill and Nardole, and there can be monsters and stuff lurking in the background, but, for a one-off season, the Doctor in the life of academia would be awesome. I'd watch that and I'd love it.

I adored this episode. And I guess I am really that easy because a picture of Susan on his desk (a picture that is acknowledged and talked to) just made my whole week.

Maybe they're saving that for Big Finish.

Even if that fails, there'll always be fanfiction...

That's why I made the comparison to Pertwee at UNIT HQ. In between the aliens, monsters and Daleks, the Third Doctor was just a mundane guy working a job and dealing with everyday nonsense. Which is more or less the situation the Twelfth Doctor is in now, only he has more freedom to travel time and space than the Third did.
