The Penguin Episode Discussion thread.

We have veeeery different definitions of the word silly if
"being burned alive with your son"
falls under that heading.
The way it played out is what I found silly. WIth not noticing the smell of gasoline or trying to take her coat off or anything when she figured out what Oz was doing.

I'm not sure what the best part of episode 6 was.

Sophia's coversation with Eve.
Vic trying deseprately not to have to do what he has to do.
Or Oz selling his vision to the various gangs.

Superb writing for all three scenes. And the final shot? Eek!

One for the pinch of salt file but it’s being claimed that there may also be a Joker series in the vein of this one. I’m not convinced, seeing as we’ve only met BK’s Joker in a coda and Mr J is generally an enigma without the family life etc that this show has been able to give Oz. And if they do opt to give him a personality and background, there will inevitably be comparisons to the Phoenix movies. Not forgetting of course that they probably want to distance themselves from Folie A Deux…

Well I guess we know exactly how ruthless Oz is not, and how ruthless he's always been.

When Sofia was talking to Francis, Francis was lucid for so long that I started to think her dementia might be some kind of long con on her son! But no, it's just her periods of lucidity can last for long periods.

I love that Oz seemed offended when fate killed Sal!

Didn't expect the Selina Kyle name drop or Falcone connection (which is from the comics). Or Vic's fate. Oz cannot be trusted with family, blood or found.

ETA: Oops, The Batman revealed Selina was Falcone's daughter.

Damn what a finale. It was always a balancing act throughout the show with Oz. They show his good sides and then he'd do something terribly dark. Even the dark things he did seemed ok because he did it to awful people and at least he loved his mom and took care of her, right?

This episode blew every doubt away, any notion that Oz might have good sides - he is a true monster, there's no denying it.

Everyone near him ended up worse in the end, people he trusted as well as his enemies.
What i loved is how they resisted for the entire show to connect it to the wider Batman universe and it served the show well but i actually gasped when they mentioned Selina Kyle at the end and cheered and clapped when they put up the Bat signal  That was fan service of course but very well placed and done.

Damn, Farrel and Milioti need at least nominations in the next award rounds and at least Farrell shoudl win some. What he delivered here was nothing short of brilliant.

The entire cast was terrific and Emmy-worthy. Definitely Farrell and Millotti, but also the person who played Frances.

Poor Vic. I saw it coming when he said they were family.

Oz has one hell of an Oedipus complex!

Is it safe to assume there was nothing sexual between Oswald and Eve and this has always been her role with him?

Also, this is why the fandom is the fandom and not part of the creative staff making these things -- saw comments that said Vic is coming back as Mr. Freeze because he was killed during snowfall, or that the water meant Vic is coming back as Solomon Grundy.
