The Pegasus: The Riker RetCon

I remember the humor of the early discussion of this episode that Starfleet was moronic for not having its own cloaking devices.

Because the writers who thought that are too stupid to understand Starships were supposed to be superior to cloaked vessels; those ships were not capable of having defensive screens and they moved slower. When the idiots start giving those sneak attack ships shields and tougher hull capacities and speed, lets not forget make them bigger* of course they would believe that.

*For a larger vessel to have a cloaking device would mean the ship would be producing more energy to bend light, Starships would at least decipher the energy patterns making the device moot.

The big ships might not be able to park under a Federation deflector dish and go undetected, but if they get detected at 20,000 km instead of several light years away, it's still a win.

Starships will always have the advantage... unless some moron decides not to write it so which creates stupid episodes like "The Pegasus".

You can clearly see these ships with the naked eye, but good luck trying to find them when they're operational.

Yep, THAT'S Star Trek alright! Give me more examples which has nothing to do with what I know about Star Trek based concepts.

Because Pre-Augment Bashir was just a snotty jerkass who was really good at tennis who, nevertheless, fled to butt end of the Federation for inexplicable reasons. This gave us a reason.

The reason is literally in the pilot episode. It's one of the first things Bashir ever actually says on screen. Having him be genetically engineered doesn't alter that one bit and it's never even implied that that was at all a factor in him going to DS9.

Sorry, opinions aside, you're just dead wrong about that.

I'm confused because cloaking devices go ON Starships.

The Romulan warships in TNG are also stated to be every bit as tough as the Enterprise-D.

He's demanding that they stick with the original convention that cloaked ships lack warp like the Romulan BoP or have to be small like the Klingon BoP.

Even TOS trashed that as soon as The Enterprise Incident.

Essences from the terrible Season 3.

There's NOTHING in Balance of Power that implies a ship cannot have warp AND a cloak. Only that the BoP is implied not to have warp. The two things are never correlated, except apparently in your mind.
Starships don't need a cloaking device, their technological advances are superior; also an experienced Starfleet crew has made the villains' weapon nil many times.

Right, you want to live in your headcanon. Fine. Have fun.

The FACT is that we have seen, on-screen and as far back as the SECOND ep featuring a cloak, that ships exist that have cloaks and are just as powerful as the Enterprise, ONLY beaten because of superior skill on behalf of the crew NOT any technological superiority of the ship.

But you go right on living the dream.

Name them and the episode?
