The Party's Over?

Carpe Occasio

The buildup is over, there's no more speculation, the movie has been seen. Now it's the downhill slide towards the sequel. TrekMovie.com has less to inform us about, all we can do is rehash what we've already rehashed (mmmmm... hash). Things won't pick up again until they write a script and start production on Star Trek XII: The Reboot of Khan (maybe). It just seems like the air has been let out of the balloon. We were flying high but now we're grounded in the new Star Trek reality. It's just not the same...

Just keeping looking at the bright side, Eeyore.

We have been talking fervently about this film for the past 2-1/2 years and it was at almost two years ago that we found out about Quinto, Nimoy and the "Spocks" castings...

...so I think we can easily have heated discussions regarding this sequel for the next two years. One party may be ending, but another is just beginning.

Nah, i disagree. When one successfully climbs a reputedly impossible mountain, one sees a whole new landscape of universal possiblities.

There's no predictablity with either the couragous onscreen, offscreen and in-story teams and what they will dare.

And the quantum reality of the situation posits that even a single random event at the subatomic level could cascade all manner of divergences in the grunt level of existence in comparison to what we knew.

So fire everything and forget everything you thought you knew.

A bold new adventure .. a whole new approach ... is just beginning.... (queue music)

Well now you start thinking about the sequel, not sure how else people are suppose to react after the movie is over with?

It won't be the same (and in a good way). Nothing was established about New Trek at first, other than it would use the TOS characters. Then elements of New Trek were slowly revealed to us. There were debates over whether it was a prequel, a reboot, a partial-reboot, what the characters would be like, who would play them, what the reacton would be, and, to quote Yul Brenner, "etcetera, etcetera, etectera."

Now that New Trek is established, we know what it is, we know what it's not, and we know how the public likes it, and how we like it, all that's left to do is wonder about what the plot will be for ST XII, what the aftermath of ST XI is, and debate about how much of Prime Trek should be recycled into New Trek. To the side, I think a lot of the recycling should be saved for Series VI since we'll get new episodes there every week as opposed to every few years.

Curiosity and enthusiasm will shift its emphasis from The Franchise (what it should and shouldn't be) to Plot Developments (what's going to happen next?). The shift will be towards something that's, by nature, less contentious.

we have to look forward too..
the release of the dvd which probably will include the missing scenes and other
background material.

speculation on the sequel.

which is a lot more then we had a long time in here.
i remember when all we had was that abrams was involved and the first poster with just the emblem.

Well, look on the bright side.

We can all look forward to 5431 more threads of "Is Shatner going to be in the sequel ?". Loads of fan times ahead of us.

There will always be the discussions about:
  • the villain
  • casting the villain
  • should there even be a villain?
  • the plot
  • what should be changed in the next film?
  • should they change the look of "Engineering"
  • OMG!!! It's opening the week after X-Men Origins: Kitty Pryde. Kitty will kill STXII at the box office!
  • who should direct?
  • should they slow down the pace a bit?
  • Trust me -- Some will start a thread "Nemesis was better than STXI, Stuart Baird should direct STXII"
  • should Gary Mitchell be in it?
  • the casting of Gary Mitchell
  • should "Number One" be in it?
  • should Nurse Chapel and/or Janice Rand be in it?
  • should Kevin Riley be in it?
  • should Leslie, Hadley and Brent be in it? Then why not Mr. Kyle?
  • the casting of Number One, Chapel, Rand, Riley, Leslie, Hadley, Brent, and Kyle
  • Scarlett Johansson should play Nurse Chapel or Janice Rand
  • who will die?
  • who should die?
  • will they bring back the Planet Vulcan?
  • should they bring back the Planet Vulcan?
  • Are we going to see any more of Old Spock?
  • Should this be a Khan redux?
  • is a Sikh Indian actor required for the part of Khan?
  • If not an Indian, then what about Javier Bardem?
  • what about Jack Black as Harry Mudd?
  • BRING BACK SHATNER!!! :scream:
etcetera, etcetera, etcetera...

The "are deleted scenes and background material on the dvd canon?" discussion is good for six months right there.

This is the type of post that gives S.T. fans a bad name.

The long dead "Star Trek" franchise is in the process of rising out of the grave in an entertainment comeback that is on par with Lazarus coming back from the dead and you want to talk about the fact that their are not enough fanboy rumors about the sequel?

There will be plenty of time to talk about the sequel (we should be lucky the film is doing so well + there will be a sequel) in the coming months and years.

I would suggest that you enjoy the moment with the knowledge that J.J. Abrams and co. have made Star Trek "cool" again for the first time in a generation.

Just think about all the deleted scenes and extras on the DVD/BR!!!

And then the added extras on the DVD/BR Special Edition!!!

And hopefully our experiences of the new cast when we meet them at conventions!!!

Who'll be the George Takei (great con guest, full of enthusiasm), who'll be the William Shatner (big ego, not that nice to fans), who'll be the Leonard Nimoy (respects the fans, respects Trek, moved by his experience of it), etc, etc.

Who'll be the first to post a fake poster for the sequel?

So many things to do in the coming months...
