The Outpost--new fantasy series

Yep, Garrett Spears, the guy who (apparently) died in the beginning, was the Right Proper Knight referred to above. He was THE male romantic lead of the show, and the crux of the big love triangle, so if he's really dead, that's a big shocker!

And, oh, Dredd was freed by the Queen's "loyal" maidservant, who is actually the spy everyone is worrying about. She's a slightly sympathetic character, though, because the Prime Order is holding her family hostage, so she's not exactly betraying Gwen by choice.
 
Thanks for the answers. I've actually in the mood for a fantasy show for a while now, so this scratched that itch perfectly.
 
Interesting ep last night, introducing a slew of new characters. I kinda saw the final twist coming, but I'm still curious to see where they're going with it.

Meanwhile, I just read that production moved from Utah (first season) to Serbia (second season), allowing them more bang for their buck. Have to admit that I didn't realized they had moved their location across the world! :)
 
It was pretty obvious that they were trying to turn Garrett. I didn't believe anything the healer woman was saying.

And I do not feel sorry for Dred being imprisoned in a cell so small that he can't even lie down in it. Also I can't wait to see that evil Black Blood woman get what she deserves.

Poor Janzo...Talon laughed at his cheesy line. Poor guy.

Yeah, it was nice to see the capital city, expand the worldbuilding more. And yes, I could tell pretty early on that Garret was being brainwashed; still, it's an interesting angle to take.

Meanwhile, I'd say it won't be long now before Naya's quest to make Janzo desirable to Talon leads to Naya and Janzo falling in love. That's another twist they're not particularly trying to hide.

Incidentally, in the course of looking up Naya to make sure I had her name right, I found that she's been recast. In season 1, she was played by US actress Medalion Rahimi, but now she's played by Amita Suman, who was featured in Doctor Who's "Demons of the Punjab" as Yaz's grandmother in 1947. (I thought she looked familiar, but I thought it was just from last season.)

I found that out last night when I got curious about why so many of the new guest characters had European accents. I guess the move explains why Naya was recast, and why we aren't getting many scenes set outside the Outpost.
 
Are double posts okay if nobody else has posted for a week?

Anyway, last night's ep was certainly eventful, but am I correct that it was the first episode without an actual fight or action sequence? We got lots of intrigue and politicking and romance, but no butt-kicking. Possibly to give the show a break after all the demon-fighting action last week?

Oh, I didn't notice. Although there was a significant stabbing at the end there. (Albeit a very clumsily staged one, in that it was obvious that the sword was just going behind his torso from the camera's POV rather than through it.)

I think this show has gotten somewhat better this season. It was cheesy fun last year, and it still pretty much is, but it's got somewhat more heft to the writing and storylines.
 
I was originally thinking Garret was just playing along to get back home, but if what appeared to happen at the end of last night's episode really did happen, I we can probably rule that out.
Elinor becoming Gwyn's advisor was a surprise.
I always love how whenever someone is supposed to be teaching someone else how to seduce another person who isn't interested in them, they always end up being the one who falls in love with them. Naya does seem like a better for Janzo than Talon though.
Did they explain exactly what The Three are last season? They seem to be more than just regular humans.

It looked pretty final, but then, so did Garret's stabbing. Though given how little we've seen of Wythers this season, maybe Andrew Howard had limited availability (perhaps due to the production moving to Serbia) and so is being written out.

I figured that Elinor would end up making some sort of deal with Gwyn to solve her money problems, based on Chekhov's Gun -- the episode made a point of showing off Elinor's riches and emphasizing the kingdom's lack of money in the same episode, so it stood to reason that the one would connect to the other by the end.

Still a mystery. I'm not sure the Three were even mentioned in season 1 -- it was just First Order this and Covenant that.
 
Seriously, Talon has got to learn how to guard her midsection against stabbings. I think this is the third or fourth time she's been stabbed in the gut in less than two seasons.

I'm not comfortable with the implication that Gwynn is starting to warm to Tobin now that he's behaving himself and showing a more agreeable side. She's seen what he's really like, and the fact that he's learning to pretend better shouldn't fool her. He can't make a real change like that so easily, and I hope the writers aren't planning to pretend that he really has.

I'd almost forgotten about Naya being the (reluctant, forced) spy who betrayed Garret to the Prime Order, since her main arc lately has been the cute romance with Janzo. I hope she ends up being redeemed and added as a regular. She has been a high point of the season.

By the way, I was just looking at the episode list on Wikipedia, and I hadn't realized that virtually every episode of the series has been written by the show's creators, Jason Faller & Kynan Griffin, except for episode 2.5 and the upcoming 2.8, which are written by Katherine DiSavino. That's the sort of thing that's more typical of British TV than American.
 
Well, I guess we have definite confirmation now that Garret really has turned.
Yeah, it is a bit surprising and annoying how quick Gwynn appears to falling for Tobin's nice guy act.
 
Well, I was thinking there was still a very slight chance he might have either faked stabbing him or stabbed him in a way he'd survive.
I've seen shows pull that kind of stuff before, so I didn't want to totally rule it out yet.
 
I'll cop to gasping out loud at the cliffhanger.

I'm guessing that, for better or for worse, Gwynn will start seriously warming up to Tobin just in time for Garrett to return to complicate matters. And, of course, seeing that Gwynn may have already "moved on" is just going to feed into Garrett's brainwashing . . . .

Speaking of which, I assume he's still taking that drug the Evil Brainwashing Healer prescribed for him? Do we know exactly how that affects him?

Betrayed Garret?
Indirectly maybe, since she helped Dredd escape which forced Garret to go after him, but she didn't have anything directly to do with what happened to him.

Whatever. If I forgot she was the spy in the first place, it's no surprise that I also forgot the details of what she did.
 
It's weird -- Talon is still nominally the main character of this show, and the opening narration is still by her and about her quest and situation, but she's been featured less and less as the focus has shifted to the other characters. She was only in a couple of scenes out of this whole episode, probably her smallest role yet. I wonder what's going on there. They're still shooting Jessica Green full-length when she does show up, so I doubt she's pregnant, and I can't find any news suggesting that she is. It doesn't seem likely to be an availability issue; she's from Australia, so shooting in Serbia shouldn't be any more inconvenient for her than shooting in Utah.

Maybe it's a budget issue? They don't seem to do a lot of big action sequences anymore, and that's where Talon is most at home, so maybe they're having trouble finding something to do with her. Anyway, I hope her role doesn't continue to shrink. It occurs to me that since the show is named after the place rather than any one character, they don't necessarily have to keep her as the lead.
