Here's the great on-line ratings game ( and I speak as one who plays both sides of it):

• Poster A reports supposedly ominous news about a show's ratings;
• Poster B attempts to put the dire figures into some relevant business context;
• Poster A, or C, gloatingly accuses B of excuse-making or sugar-coating.

Also the classic Poster A gleefully reports ratings are going down week by week proving that the show is not quality television, Poster B then points out that this week's ratings are actually higher than last weeks, then Poster A states "But ratings aren't a measure of quality!"

I really enjoyed the first series, and I'm looking forward to catching up on series two, but despite myself I do get a small measure of satisfaction seeing someone who has gleefully put "Doctor Who ratings are tanking ha ha ha, cancellation is imminent!" videos on YouTube every single week now posting videos panicking that Orville's ratings have gone down a bit.

Another example on how Seth uses his in-depth knowledge of St, creatively changes Trek-verse terms and technobabbles and adapt them to his own universe.

Like Warp drive becomes quantum drive, holodeck becomes simulator, etc.

Calling quantum drive a version of warp drive is no different than calling warp drive a version of hyper-drive, or phasers a version of ray-guns.

Which they are, as a matter of fact: all are terms for standard pieces of made-up space opera tech, and none of them are closely based on any real science. They simply use science-y terms and adopt "Popular Science" lay explanations of physics theories that do not, in fact, support the possibility of a Universe that functions in the way space opera universes do.

I forget what the fuck Trek claims as the theoretical basis of FTL travel, but MacFarlane's is pretty explicitly the so-called "Alcubierre drive." The visual design of the ship itself is derived from those Alcubierre diagrams you've seen all over the Internet for the past decade or so:

Here's a recent article by a critic who trashed 'Orville' and clearly wishes it to fail. He's saying ridiculous stuffs about the show while it wasn't clear whether he actually saw any of its episodes yet

She's the only character left actually played by someone in the cast with descent/actual acting ability. (Sorry, but Seth MacFarlane is a good voice actor, but his live acting ability leaves a lot to be desired. Same with his Co-Lead.)
