Show tries to be so many things at once… I don’t think it will ever truly find its own identity (pun intended), and in 10 years will only be remembered as ‘hey, remember that Star Trek spoof..?’
Worked for Galaxy Quest.

Weekly release.Does anyone know if this is going to be a weekly release or are they bringing it all out at once?
It was never a parody.I admit, I prefer Orville as a Trek parody than trying to be a genuine Trek show.
It was never a parody.
MacFarlane is a big TOS fan. To the extent that The Orville deliberately mimics Trek, it's TOS in a contemporary style, with TNG-inspired visual design.
Seemed to me they cribbed from all the Treks. A version of "The Cage", "Measure of a Man", one of the Voyager shuttle crash episodes, "Best of Both Worlds"... you can see which Treks they looked at and said, "one of these"I agree with this 100%. I've always felt The Orville is largely inspired by TOS, with a side order of Twilight Zone, and topped of with TNG aesthetics and visuals.
I've always seen The Orville more of a homage to Trek, carrying the torch for a bright and colourful optimistic look at the future, that does some very interesting commentary on current issues as well as diving into darker plotlines on occasion. In not going the dark dystopia that Trek and so many sci-fi shows are going for right now it's standing out. But that's just me.
I am in full metaphorical erection after seeing this! Can't wait!
Only a metaphorical one? You should be ashamed.
Which is a strength. I don’t think I would be interested in a parody series (parody movie? Go for it!): after a while you can only bring that forward up to a point. Orville has been expanding and establishing lore and has already built an interesting universe.

If you're in the US or somewhere it's released on Hulu, then I believe it should be weekly. I think pretty much all of Hulu's originals have always done weekly released. That was a great trailer. It's just oozing with optimism and some cool visual effects. Looking forward to June.

Agreed. The term has quite lost it's meaning at this point.I don't think any of the Star Trek shows are going for dystopian vibes and that includes when DISCO goes to a dystopia.
Indeed, and this is what has kind of put me off the Orville is the initial presentation as a straight comedy inspired by Trek and more in to a dramatic presentation but still with comedic characters. It's a fine balance to strike and it's one that the Orville has really struggled with. Going in to Season 3 with a fresh eye towards dramatic science fiction vs. comedic homage to Star Trek might help. Maybe.Like I said, it's not what I want or am looking for. I think the best comedies have characters that you believe in, change, and grow but the more they lean away from "slice of life comedy in space" the less I care.
I may or may not watch 3 if that trend continues.
