The Orville season 3 - first look

Seth said they have a plan for him should a fourth season happen.
Kinda like JJ saying he had a plan for Yelchin in that vapourware 4th Kelvin Trek movie.

If not for SNW it would be the best Trek show currently running ( without it actually being Star Trek).

I know it’s became somewhat ‘edgy’ to say these things, but it’s just a pretty tiresome attempt at pissing on DSC and PIC… it was already tiresome in 2019, and it’s even more so now…

fact is, Orville is NOT ST, just as Better Call Saul is not Law and Order just because there’s court scenes in them…

I always think of Orville as a U2 cover band, who release an original song in the vein of U2 in the Unforgettable Fire era… it’s not bad, but it’s not real U2, and there’s not enough originality to really stand out.. that’s why nobody I know has EVER heard about the Orville…. DSC on the other hand, is U2’s 1997 album Pop; it deviates from what came before, treads new grounds, takes risks, divides, polarizes, is hated or loved, but it is it’s own animal, and I will forever regard it higher than anything the Orville has put out…

I am one of the few here on the board or at least TNZ who regularly defends Discovery against what i perceive to be jumping on the bandwagon by taking a crap on the show. It has its flaws but overall i really like the style and what they do. Their problem is that at times it really feels they have gone away from the core of Trek, its humanism and positive look at the future, but not so far that it deserves all of the backlash.

Orville is a version made by a fan of core Star Trek and it shows - McFarlane makes it more comedic than general Trek because he is a comedian but every once in a while he knocks out an episode that is worthy of what Star Trek is about and that's why it is so often called best non-Trek show.

nah, it’s just an opinion. And a very legitimate one.

this episode (and plenty others) seemed pretty original to me. For sure more of a whole season of a close encounters of third kind stretched into a very thin nothing.

that’s why nobody I know has EVER heard about the Orville….
well, you might be surprised by how few have heard of discovery.

The Orville is a good series.

STD is a bad one.

You're welcome.

I think of it more as the same game being played by a different team. Like B5 and DS9 back in the day.

Saying The Orville is the best Trek around might be edgy but what can one do. I play by own rules. I was always to cool for school and I always have to keep it real. Whenever I talk about the show I throw out the playbook because I am just bad to the bone.
