I was expecting Dann to be the one still on The Orville. You know, they find one life sign, go into the "turbolift" and he's there. Would have been a great joke.
Yeah, can see that. the casual "oh, hey guys, wondered when someone was coming back. Super boring down here..."
of course, the bit with the ship in the ocean seemed a bit silly when it wasn't more damaged. It was nice to see it fly into space, but odd that Bortus apparently didn't have any interest in trying to do so. No apparent damage or repairs needed. Should have been in worse shape, more sections destroyed, at least something to show us why it crashed and was abandoned in the first place. Battle for survival of the planet, and people just bailed on a working starship? Ignoring that not-10-Forward took so little damage that the display of colorful glasses behind the bar wasn't even disturbed! Ship fell out of orbit, crashed into the ocean, sank 7 miles through some rocky areas, and then sat 9 months in exteme pressure, but not a single glass out of place.
and why did Bortus leave so many of the lights (and running lights) on? if he has no interest in escaping, you'd think he'd at least be interested in keeping power low so it lasts longer? Not a serious enough show to nitpick like that, but the odd little things you notice I guess...

Maybe Bortus is a neat freak, and he just had little else to do for the past nine months?
He's been in the holodeck........with THAT program again. He did not want anyone to come back for him!
Here's hoping for the best. But, don't be on edge. It's just an alternate timeline story. They can be fun, but they're not new.

And that same 400 years in the future technology covers the descending and ascending. Get over it. This isn't the hot glue gun of season one, of the breaking 24th and-a-half century glass in "Star Trek: Generations".

That's Bortus for you. If he's going to be the heroic Last Man on the Ship, he's going to dress the part!
Kind of meh. It is a nice look at what things would be like if the Kaylon had won, and the alternate versions of the crew were interesting. It was especially nice seeing Alara again. Though I have accepted Talla and even like her, it really is amazing just how much presence Alara even in this brief cameo. Made me realize how much I miss her even if I do like her replacement.
But I'm not sure if this was the best way to end the season, and it certainly wouldn't be a suitable series finale, IMO. As an episode it has merits even if it wasn't the strongest, but as a finale? Yeah I'm not feeling it.
I did enjoy the Star Wars homage of Yaphit imitating Jabba's door droid.
Is it me, or did Kelly's freighter kind of resemble one of the Earth starships from Stargate?
Oh, and Kelly's cleavage sure was distracting. Sorry, unprofessional and immature of me. But damn!

I'd say push up bra as young Kelly at the end looked very differently.
So you guys had Kelly's boobs, whereas I noticed that Ed looked significantly less scruffy in the shuttle scene than he did one minute later on the ship!
I loved how easily he fell into the captain role at the end.
I actually think the action adventure stuff improved this past season on "Discovery." Space looked all blurry and it felt like they forgot that space has stars last season. Orville though is better though because it's still easier to follow what is going on during a battle and somehow I don't see "Discovery" doing a space battle to the backdrop of Dolly Parton's "9 to 5."

Yeah, I can buy they have some 'subspace bubble' or something. And we already know they can create pockets of gravity behaving differently. But they showed that scene like the black hole was some kind of big pretty bubble, no lensing of the light or contraction of space. And if their technology could really make it so you could flow in and out of a black hole like it's a big pretty bubble, the Kaylon with the same technology should have had no trouble finding them.
I felt every time the Orville decides to go dramatic, they do their worst episodes.
The best Orville episodes are The Office in Space.

I’ve thought about this episode for a little while. Didn’t really do it for me. Felt like I’ve seen it twice on ST:NG and at least once on ST:VOY, not to mention a chunk of Empire Strikes Back. Top it off at the end with a big reset button, basically nothing carries forward. Blerg.....
So this episode was kind of fun. Basically a redo of Yesterday's Enterprise, although with different specifics. I'll give it a 7. Fun but not really much too it. Total TNG complete with a big RESET! Plus, the whole, wow, Ed and Kelly are so important the galaxy hinges on their 2nd date and marriage! And people think The Burnham is a problem. That is nothing in comparison to The Ed & Kelly!
The Orville has dodgy science. In the previous episode, the cover the ship in water ice and somehow that cloaks them?! Sheesh. That won't even deceive radar! This time they dip into the event horizon of a black hole. Um, that's the point of no return. But the they casually use their sub-light drive to get out! God the writers are so dumb at science!
Who else thought of the Borg neural network. When they discover the Krylons use the same thing, I thought there going to send a sleep message!
Man, Ed and Gordon are lucky that the Krylons are such bad shots as they got their replicator. They make the stormtroopers look like marksmen!
Despite the shortcomings, it was an entertaining watch. Mostly connect the dots but in a fun way.
While The Orville isn't top notch TV for me, I do hope it is renewed. I know a lot of you here really enjoy it. So, it would be a shame if it was cancelled. And, I'll enjoy it too. It's just not rush to see TV for me.
Oh, and the ship they have in this episode is way cooler than The Orville!

Because these topics are intended to - shocker! - talk about the episodes rather than to avoid talking about the episodes.
Have they much lately though? It's been almost 5 years since the mess they made of Minority Report (Not that I ever even saw it) Frankly, if it hadn't been for the fact that MacFarlane is pretty much a god at that network, this series never happens in the 1st place
