THE ORVILLE S2, E1: "JA'LOJA"

This wasn't a bad episode, it just wasn't a Season Premiere. I wish they'd done something with a little more intensity to it. Didn't have to be action packed, but it seemed like all B-plots to me.

OK. My non-recognition of Tyler is explained by the simple fact that I haven't SEEN Discovery, not my (steadily advancing years.

episode seemed flat to me. Was more like a character building episode and soap opera. Kids getting into trouble, relationship issues, jumping from story to story with it all like "Days of Our Lives"

It's good to have Orville back. I'm kinda in love with Claire. I didn't realise how much I missed the show until it came back. My only gripe is I wanted to hear Bortus pee:rommie:

I had no idea Alara is leaving. I must research this on Google immediately:wtf:

I have to admit I like her the least out of all the characters so I won't really miss her but she was okay.

Just watched Youtube videos made by Egostatic Funtime/JP. I think he's the first e-blogger who broke the story last summer when the crew were filming for S2.

While I found JP to be self-righteous and pompous at times, his scoops on behind the scenes inside 'Orville' and 'Discovery' is mostly correct.

Oh, I've only seen two episodes, I just don't like his slick style.

Form over substance.

He's trying to be 90s cool.

JP is a toxic weasel.

He can be annoying at times but other than not liking "Discovery." i'm not sure why he is such a problem. It would be nice if we didn't toss that label out so much. Save it for the likes of that Geeks and Gamer guy of the Bowstek guy I think he is called. I guess the list is pretty long but maybe not as long as people think it is.

What’s wrong with not liking Discovery?

There is nothing wrong not liking Discovery. Everyone knows the only thing ever made that is so perfect that anyone disliking it is doing a human sin is "Mystery Science Theater 3000." Still just because one doesn't like it doesn't mean people half to be a dick about it. I don't think most people do that. Some but not most.

He isn’t a “dick”about it though. He has some valid reasons as to why he doesn’t like it.

That's why I agree he isn't a dick. At least from the things I have watched. Which admittedly isn't everything he posts.

Okay, that was definitely a low-key season premiere. No invasions, supernovae, space battles, ray gun blasts, or space fu fights. I loved it, but I hope it doesn't hurt the ratings.

The main plot of Bortus needing to return to his home planet to urinate (talk about a shy bladder) was obviously an homage to Spock's mating impulse. Sort of a mock time. But there were no complications and Bortus was apparently able to relieve himself without incident. Of course, it's hard to imagine how ritual urination could lead to Bortus and Mercer getting into a fight to the death over a woman, but it sort of emphasizes how this was sort of a week-in-the-life episode for the crew, with no overall conflict or antagonist.

Secondary to that plot was the ongoing saga of Mercer and Grayson's relationship status. Mercer is now openly gung ho about getting back together, while Grayson appears to be moving on. Mercer does the lonely ex drive-by thing-- in spaaaace-- and gets caught. I'm sure this will trigger the same conservative backlash that the Rob Lowe episode did last season, which should be fun to watch. But Grayson's too-good-to-be-true boyfriend is very understanding, which makes me think he is indeed too good to be true. And therefore doomed.

Alara, meanwhile, is still having guy problems, which is probably the most far-fetched plot device on this over-the-top sci-fi show. But in a hilarious interaction with Bortus, she allows herself to be set up on a blind date with a guy-- who turns out to be Dan. :rommie: Who almost immediately bonds with her, and starts writing poetry and text nagging her. No wonder she's going to leave the show.

Dr. Finn's plot involves her boring kids again, but the interesting part was her developing relationship with Isaac. I wonder if there is an inter-species romance in the making here. Last year, Finn got it on with an alien made of jelly and this year she's hanging out with a robot-- she seems to have exotic tastes. :rommie:

Lamarr doesn't have much to do in this episode except help Gordon try to make time with the new female crewmember, which doesn't work out too well ("Can't do it-- thanks for the help."). It will definitely be interesting if this character turns out to be counter-infiltrating the Orville to wreak revenge on Mercer.

All in all, it was a nice reintroduction to the ship and the crew, highlighting their unique personalities and lifestyles. I just hope that the lack of explosions doesn't turn off an audience that suffers from a negative attention span.

The more zippers the better?

John either gives bad advice or hes giving bad advice on purpose, to keep Gordon single.

a. He's a Meangirl.
b. He's a time agent.
c. He's in love withe Gordon.

Don't worry.
This Thursday's episode will at least include a supernova. And depending whethet the show runners want to reveal Mercer's new love interest as a Krill infiltrator in this episode, we might see potential confrontation with the Krill as well

Don't write off the show for the lukewarm premiere episode. It was indeed a reintroduction to the characters and I'm sure the show runners have more in store for them. The best is yet to come ;);).
