The Original Crew - What became of them?

Terok Nor

Commodore
Commodore
Kirk's crew - What happened to them?

It seems wrong to have a thread like this for all the spin offs but not for the show that started it. Even though we know what happened to some of them let's speculate about their fates anyway.

Kirk - Not much to say. He's dead and buried. It wouldn't have been my choice for his swan song but there you have it.

Spock - Still in the alternate universe/timeline helping his people rebuild their civillisation until otherwise informed by the new movies.

Bones - He was really old and frail in Encounter At Farpoint. It seems unlikely he would still be alive 28 years later but until someone tells me otherwise as far as I'm concerned Bones is still kicking:bolian:

Scotty - 23 years after Relics I don't see Scotty still travelling around in that shuttle. He was planning to retire before his transporter accident and I think he probably would have eventually. I'm sure Scotty would have remained in contact with anyone from his time who was still alive in the 24th century.

Sulu - Based on Janeway's comments about him looking nothing like his portrait I have to assume Sulu is dead by the time she joins Starfleet. Chakotay mentions a Captain Sulu in another episode but there's no way to know if it was Hikaru or Demora. My guess is Sulu died sometime between the flashback portion of the Chakotay episode and Janeway joining starfleet.

Uhura - We have no idea what happened to her. I'd like to think she's still alive in the 24th century possibly working in a high position in Starfleet.

Checkov - If Bones is still alive in the late 24th century then there's every chance the much younger Checkov is. Probably still working for Starfleet in some capacity.

The title of this thread confused me. I thought it was referring to the original crew from "The Cage."

Of those characters we know the fate of only two of them. Spock is still kicking around and Pike is vegging out on Talos IV.

Since we never hear or see any of the others ever again their fates are ripe for speculation.

I had the same impression.

Of "the cage" crew, were any even name checked later ?

Kirk: Dead and buried on Veridian III.

Spock: Helped evacuate thousands from Romulus before it's sun went nova and destroyed the system. Currently helping them start again on New Romulus (the alternate universe where he was then transported into the alternate timeline has no effect on the Prime Universe).

Scott: Heading up the Starfleet Corps of Engineers from his workshop in San Francisco.

Sulu: Was killed in action in 2300, though his death was instrumental in preserving the fragile peace with the Klingon Empire.

Uhura: After a time teaching at the Academy, she took command of the U.S.S. Ranger and led a mission to make peace with the Wentu, a mysterious in Sector Sigma-1009. After the successful completion of her mission she remained in command of the Ranger until 2310 when she was promoted to the Admiralty. Eventually she became the Chief of Starfleet Operations, before retiring in 2340 and settling on a new colony outside Federation space, where she was elected governor in 2345. She lives there to this day.

McCoy: After seeing the Enterprise-D off on her maiden voyage, he returned to Earth for several years. He rekindled his friendship with Scotty, the two spending lots of time together until his death of natural causes in 2370.

Chekov: He was promoted to Captain in late-2394 and assumed command of the U.S.S. Ulysses on a deep space mission, before going on to command the newest Excelsior-Class ship, U.S.S. Endeavour, until he was promoted to Rear Admiral in 2317. He became a Sector Commander operating out of Starbase 100 for several years, before entering the ranks of Starfleet Security, ultimately becoming it's Chief in 2332. He retired in 2355 and remained on Earth, where he tried his hand at writing.

Not that I know of--at least not "officially." Maybe they've shown up or been referenced in a novel somewhere.

There's about a decade (give or take) between "The Cage" and WNMHGB during which anything could have happened. Technically they could have all been killed off or perhaps one or two them during that time, except for Pike and Spock, of course.

There have been novels asserting Scotty and Uhura were already aboard the Enterprise when Kirk takes over. I don't have a problem with that since it's more nuanced than everybody boarding at the same time. After all we see Piper aboard the Enterprise before we see McCoy. I'm not crazy about the idea of Scotty coming aboard when Spock does (re: Vulcan's Glory by D.C. Fontana) given it takes away the idea Scotty has knocked around on a number of ships before getting to the Enterprise.

We could speculate Piper took over from Boyce at some point or maybe Piper was just a temp assignment until McCoy could report aboard. So during that ten years there could have been any number of CMOs between Boyce and McCoy.

When Pike is promoted to Fleet Captain perhaps he brought some of his old crew with him. Yeoman Colt might have remained with him as an assistant? Jose Tyler possibly rose in rank and transferred out eventually.

I think a lot of us like to imagine Number One eventually got her own command and could even be a Commodore during the Kirk era.

Since everyone's pattern was recorded via the transporter, can't they in theory be "cloned". Even if they need some dnA, I'm sure they could come up with something. So everyone is still around.

I'm being mostly facetious but this is sci-fi after all.

Sounds good to me:lol:

Commodore Jose Tyler shows up in Peter David's novel, The Rift.

And Yeoman Colt did some time-travelling in the Star Trek: Early Voyages comic book series.

As for some of the others, I have some ideas in those direction. Give me time. :)

Thought I'd give Pike's crew (except for Spock of course) a go as well:

Pike: Lived a long, content and happy life with Vina on Talos IV. He died at the ripe old age of 150.

Number One: She passed over command of the Enterprise in favour of the first Titan-Class ship commissioned, leading a seven-year deep space mission. Upon her return to Federation space, she was placed in command of the team sent to study an ancient spire on a remote world. Officially classed as KIA when the system's star exploded. [Actually, she and the expeditionary team evacuated through an Iconian Gateway to a station of their in the Andromeda Galaxy. There they set out to explore and make contact with other races, a mission she commanded until her death in 2335. The original crew's descendants continue their work to this day.]

Boyce: He retired after Pike's second five-year mission, when he set up a small practice on a frontier colony. During his time there he was instrumental in stopping a devastating plague, as well as curing countless other ailments and injures, until his death in 2297. In his honour, the original settlement was renamed Boyce City.

Tyler: He went on to have a long and illustrious career, choosing never to go beyond the rank of Captain. He married Colt and they had two sons, who would go on to carry out the family tradition of serving in Starfleet (as well as the name Jose Tyler, with the fifth to bear it now serving onboard the Border Cutter Silverfin). He was killed in action in 2288 saving the lives of his crew.

Colt: She served under Number One onboard the Titan as Security Chief for seven years. When she returned to Federation space she married Tyler and had two sons. She continued to serve, occassionally with her husband, until she retired at 75 as Captain of Starbase 47. She settled into a quiet life on Earth, where she could dote on her grandchildren.

KIRK-Officially listed as KIA following the rescue of the El Aurian refugees by the Enterprise B. His death on Veridian III is classified as top secret. Rumors persist about an "echo" of Kirk still existing in and out of the Nexus.

SPOCK- Missing and presumed dead following the explosion of the Hobus Star.

MCCOY: Dead. Spent the last years of his life developing the EMH with Dr. Louis Zimmerman. The McCoy Protocol is available in all EMHs.

SCOTTY- After a stint in the Corps of Engineers, Scott retired. He occasionally consults for Starfleet.

SULU- Retired as an Admiral. His children and grandchildren have all gone on to become distinguished Starfleet officers. The name "Sulu" is almost synonymous with Starfleet

UHURA: Commandant of Starfleet Academy for several years. Now semiretired and involved in recruitment.

CHEKOV- Retired from Starfleet after the death of Kirk and entered government service. Served on the Federation Council and later as a Colonial governor.

What about Janice Rand, Kevin Riley, M'Benga and Nurse Chapple?
JB
Rand opened a combo hair salon/basket weaving shop. Riley was placed on trial for crimes against humanity for his rendition of "Kathleen". M'Benga runs a slap clinic on Vulcan. Chapple left Starfleet under a cloud turbulence, suspicion and rumors. Walking a way from a successful career and a 50 million dollar contract.

What about Janice Rand, Kevin Riley, M'Benga and Nurse Chapple?
JB

In the novels, Riley ends up as a Federation ambassador, after serving as Admiral Kirk's chief of staff for a time. He pops up occasionally in movie-era novels, such as my own Foul Deeds Will Rise.

See also The Lost Years by J.M. Dillard, Probe by Margaret Bonanno (sorta), etc.
