The One Thing You Could Change, ENTERPRISE Edition...

Why stop there? Maybe also have T'Pol be require to get cosmetic surgery so she could look just like everyone else?

Seriously, why does T'Pol have to wear a starfleet uniform? She's not in starfleet at the beginning of the series and she should never be Starfleet for the duration of the series run, she's Vulcan not Human.

Why have her conform?
Her uniform at the beginning of the series is fine. But once she received her Starfleet commission, she should have had to conform like the rest of the crew.

If T’Pol can dress the way she wants, then why can’t the rest of the crew? It wasn’t like what Scotty wore in the TOS movies a century after ENT wasn’t considered acceptable by Starfleet regulations.

Maybe the rest of the crew shouldn't of had to?

Truely thought it was strange that T'Pol was first officer of the NX-01. A consultant sure, a observer okay, a foreign military attache yeah, but she should not have been a part of the same chain of command as Starfleet. And therefor not first officer. Ever.

The crew would show her a appropriate level of respect, but she couldn't issue a legal order.

Well, she was considered a chaperone at first, allowing Starfleet access to Vulcan star charts in exchange. Although Trip - who should have been the real first officer on the NX-01 - considered her to be a spy in the beginning.

As for being able to issue legal orders to Starfleet officers, blame bad writing. As sub commander - which is supposed to be beneath the rank of Vulcan captains only - should be ranked below the rank of commander. In fact, that is the case with the Romulan command structure.

Instead sub commander was ranked above Starfleet commander because of Vulcan influence. And then she was given the rank of commander afterwards once she had her Starfleet commission.

But the thing is the job of first officer comes with actual responsibilities and duties, it's a job that takes years to gain experience to perform. T'Pol was a officer in the Vulcan Security Agency, at one point a fieid operative, when we first see her see she is attached to the Vulcan embassy on Earth.

How does that qualify T'Pol to do the job of a naval first officer?

Its not that she’s qualified to be first officer. Its that she’s supposed to report back to her superior officers on Vulcan as to what Archer and his crew are doing; not just because most of the crew is inexperienced (Mayweather and Phlox being the exceptions), and to see if they are clashing with Vulcan interest. Vulcan interests being influencing the Coridan government and being involved with a war with Andoria. And Ministry of Security qualifies her for that.

I.E. Trip is right, she’s a spy. Its the real reason she got the job to begin with. Archer just tolerated it, considering the Vulcans had already delayed Starfleet's mission for years.

One obvious change would be having a more primitive ship without transporters, phasers or possibly even artificial gravity. It would have forced the creatively exhausted writers to be more inventive instead of churning out another TNG style Trek series.

But she didn't have to be the XO, Just being the primary science officer would do..
she’s a spy
Could this deep secret be more blatantly obvious? I mean she's a agent in the fucking security directorate.

The Vulcans put a CIA officer on the bridge.
Archer just tolerated it
I think Archer was given direct orders through Forrest, he had zero choice in the matter.

Realistically no artificial gravity would be a problem in terms of producing a weekly show, unless you were suggesting a ship with rotating sections.

Phasers. TPTB would want a form of weapons that leaves a pretty color trail behind, if the ship had guns (machine guns, gattling guns) that fired projectiles with trasers, that would do the trick nicely.

I would personally perfer they had missles (not torpedoes) that had the option of either chemical or nuclear explosive. The launcher mech would attach the warhead just prior to launch.
forced the creatively exhausted writers
Or just replace them?
another TNG style Trek series
To be honest, by that point it was "another Trek style Trek series."

The whole issue of the Vulcans having influence over Earth's space exploration mission would still be hanging over their heads. So its just better to acknowledge that she's the XO. It's more honest about the state of relations between Earth and Vulcan.

Yes they did.

Which makes me wonder why they (the writers) didn’t take advantage of her history more. But that also trying to understand why they didn’t make use of Mayweather’s experiences more too.

I think Archer was given direct orders through Forrest, he had zero choice in the matter.

So he tolerated it. Since he wanted to go into space - since he thought the Earth was held back for too long - and use his father’s engine. And he wasn't going to get to do that if he didn't accept T'Pol.

On the surface...make T'Pol's 3rd and 4th season makeup the way she was done up all along. Her hair and eyebrows were so much more "Vulcan" and flattering.

Keep the TCW, I liked it, but actually DO something with it. I mean all of the dancing around to make this fit into a pre-TOS show was ridiculous. Actually use the TCW and the discovery of the Borg sphere remnants to change the timeline, creating an alternate and then freeing ENT up from canon Nazi's. Have each season be a loose arc. It didn't have to be a "Xindi" or Babylon 5 style epic, but have a start point in the premiere and an end point in the finale and have the season journey there.

Goose Archer a bit. I llove Bakula, but he had no energy. And make him stand up better in a fight with Shran.

Make the 3rd and 4th season version of the song the theme for entire series. Unlike most fans, I liked it and it really was an appropriate tune for the series.

Make it more adventuresome and scary and less "Berman Era" Trek with "hey look, Trip is pregnant!"

And keep UPN execs out of the mix.

Honestly, it's my favorite of the post original series shows, so I already love it.

Focus the whole series on the mirror universe, including an awesome soundtrack by Queen to get the audience rooting for the "bad guys."

As a red blooded male I love T'pol's jumpsuits. :D
Jolene is a beautiful woman.
But she should have been in a Star Fleet uniform from at least the beginning of season 3. By that point she was a full member of the crew and should have looked like one. Like Troi in the later seasons of TNG.

Generally more aesthetic and tech influence from Forbidden Planet, including no viewscreens (cf. “Balance of Terror”).

Another one I’d be tempted to say is...don’t make the Vulcans be jerks. They are just such assholes from the start of the show.
