Does anyone actually want grain as a by-product of a clean, clear, sharp image?
Yes, of course. It's film grain, it's there because that's how film looks. I'm sure in many cases film makers chose specific types of film based on the 'look' the grain would have contributed to the final product. Now a lot of blu-ray conversions have made the mistake of setting their grain phasers to scrub. What we end up with in that scenario are endless scenes where all the faces look unrealistically smooth and plastic.
So yes, give me the film grain if the show was shot on film.
