My 2 cents on the series..obviously STNG gets the treatment first as I predicted, then Enterprise, because it'll be quicker and its a shorter series, then back to DS9, since it's ratings were respectable.

"Remastering" Enterprise reminds me of that joke on Family Guy of the guy who's proud of his son going to DeVry:

Man 1: Hey, did I tell you my son got into DeVry?
Man 2: What did he have to do, open the door?
Man 1: You never let me have anything! :(

In this case it would go like this:

Studio: Hey did you know we're going to remaster Enterprise?
Audience: What'd you have to do? Copy it to a BD?
Studio: Ahhh.....yeah pretty much.....

I didn't say "remastering" is said "treatment", meaning bluray.

There has never been a fully HD presentation of Enterprise since it's last season and msot people didn't have HD back then, including myself. Netflix has a pretty good picture, but not as good as bluray. There will probably be a few tweaks and so on, but yes, I think because it is the most easily transferable to bluray, Enterprise will be next.

I got a shipping notification on the 27th and I still don't have it! I really hope I get it bu tomorrow. My buddy and I are getting together for a beers and TNG night!

This is truly awesome to have finally. Watched all 3 episodes, great stuff. I can't wait for season one, but season three is the one I'm really looking forward to. Season one will be like a whole new experience based on what we've seen so far.

I just realized that if they release two seasons a year then we're going to have to wait for the second part of BOBW just like we did the first time around. D'oh!

It wasn't that long ago that many people said TNGR would never happen.

It was felt it would be too time and money intensive for them (CBS/Paramount) to want to bother with it as we all knew what the project would involve (putting the episodes back together again from scratch.) We were wrong.

I knew it would happen eventually. The success of nuStarTrek really is what I think pushed the project to the "let's do it" phase. They want to cash in on that success as much as possible. TOS-R was already done, so TNG was naturally next in step even if it was more work.

DS9 did horrible in ratings (some valid reasons IMO, some non-valid ones) so, while I feel it will eventually be done, it probably won't be any time soon. IF TNG-R is really successful for them, they will do VOY-R next, and if THAT is successful, then they will probably do DS9-R.

Don't believe the revisionist hype, DS9 had respectable ratings. In it's first year it finished number 2, with a rating over 9.0. A rating of 9.0 in today's market would generally put it in the top 10-15 for the WEEK!

Yes, it's ratings fell, but so did all other syndicated shows, until now syndication barely exists at all. Has a lot to do with format changes and companies merging. A rating of 4.5-5 like it had in it's later years sill means 8-12 million people watched it a week (taking in repeat viewings of syndication).

The perception is that lots of people didn't like it, and by comparison to STNG, that may be true, but there is still a big audience for a remastered DS9 series.

Couldn't agree more with this statement. nuTrek is a complete divorce from the TNG era. The amount of people who got into TNG through seeing the new movie must be tiny.

If we're talking about the younger generation, yeah. But TNG was a very big mainstream success, with something like 20 million viewers. There's probably a great many people who watched back then, moved on to other things (the other spinoffs not appealing to them), and then came back for JJ's similarly mainstream Trek.

I find ratings in the US really weird. Doctor Who, which I suppose is a comparable show, averages about 8 million here, in a country with only a fifth of the population of the US.

Cancel it and buy it at Best Buy...they cost less minus the shipping.

The audience is more fragmented here, with lots of other media vying for attention, this includes cable, and so on. Gone are the days when people generally flocked to big name shows, and 30 million or more watched at a time, today, a good number might be 15 million. Now people watch more niche shows they might not have in the past, but it has the effect of dividing up the audience ratings.

Best Buy is who I ordered from! :scream:

I was in my local Target earlier and their entire Blu-Ray section was under-stocked and they were out of a lot of new releases and I didn't even see a spot for the Next Gen BD in the new release section.

I agree, DS9 was a successful show. It was also competing with another Star Trek series throughout its broadcast (except for a few episodes during its third season). Today however, with no new Star Trek on the air and a movie franchise that many older fans find unrecognisable, there should be a sizeable demand for remastered old style Trek be it TNG, DS9 or even Voyager and ENT. Its interesting that CBS now holds the rights to these shows, a channel that as I understand it, has generally been associated with a more mature viewership.

most of the Target stores in my area where sold out....but I did manage to find a store with 3 left (right next to the Buck Rogers in the 25th Century DVD set)...though it was a bit further than I would have liked to drive to.

they too were under-stocked.

Still can't believe Fry's didn't have it.
They've always had discs on release day and the same cost as Amazon.

that was a first time let down.

Ok, you can call off the dogs. My disc was in the mail when I got home!

I still have to wait until tomorrow to watch it though.

Just posted in the other thread, that if you hit Menu while watching an episode, you can watch with the Okudagram menu open while you watch, gives it a very TNG feeling! I think if they were moved over a little to just occupy the pillar box area, it would be a cool option to offer for the season discs. An Okudagram option, so instead of black bars, you have fun animated Okudagraphics framing the picture.

Well, on mine the Okudagram is just on the left of the screen and partly overlaps the picture but I agree if the picture was framed with Okudagrams on eitherside it'd fill the screen and lessen any worry about unevenly wearing the screen but I wonder if some would find it distracting? (Of course it could be an image one could turn off.)

I've seen lots of bad ideas in my time, probably even made a few here of my own, but this seems like a cool idea.

I will try to get the word to the production team. I am meeting soon with my TNG producer friend, before she gets interviewed! She needs to remember episodes etc, to match her stories!
