Ugh.

Edit: But that Klingon makeup holds up amazingly well. Every still of Worf is stunning.

I wonder why they didn't replace all the 4-foot models with CGI? Maybe they're not going for consistency. Maybe they simply didn't have the footage. Or maybe they haven't decided yet. This is still just a sampler.

Transporter effects looks amazing. Really bright and defined. The season 1 transporter effects always looked pretty puny and faded.

I'd like to see some of the holodeck scenes to see how the compositing has improved.

The worst thing about it is when we get to Darmok he's going to re-create the Enterprise firing phasers out its torpedo tubes?
C'mon mannnnnn
Someone on the Blu-ray.com forum mentioned that the "energy beam from the captain's yacht" mistake has been fixed in EaF (it now comes from the phaser strip), so it's a reasonable bet the Darmok phaser goof will be fixed too. Can anyone confirm this? I haven't seen it in any of the screengrabs yet.

To all of you griping about D. Just leave the man alone! He knows what he is doing. Berating him and spamming him with emails is what gives fandom its questionable reputation! Please let it go and get a life!

... except the possible extension would be mostly on the left, not on the right, so in any possible 16:9 you'd either move Picard's upper body / head out of the center or cut off Worf's head.

Absolutely true of course. However, there is software nowadays, that will smart stretch trivial elements of a picture to get it closer to 16:9. Together with smart cropping and using additional picture from the film that might make it possible. It would be a huge effort, though, as they would have to make sure it worked with every frame of footage.

Yes, they could also just reshoot the entire show thanks to an ingenious little contract clause insisted on by Rick Berman that allows CBS to collect a strand of hair from everyone in the main cast, and then clone them and use synthesized hormones to rapid-age them. While this would be an enormous undertaking, personally I'm appalled they don't even seem to consider exercising this option in order to make the show appear in the only widescreen format appropriate for such a landmark program, which of course is Cinerama.

:barf: That would be a travesty. Sorry.

Also, it looks like they were able to keep the Deneb IV matte painting rather than re-create it in CG (the clouds and surface features look identical):

I'm not so sure about that. I think they just faithfully recreated the layout. Either way the end result kicks ass!

Q's grid forcefield is a huge improvement, depsite looking effectively identical:

I was thinking the same thing. They stayed true to the original and shot while at the same time giving it more realism.
