So a season every three months or so, nice. Cannot wait!

All 178 episodes from seven seasons will be transferred to true high-definition 1080p for release over the next two years on Blu-ray.
With TNG's 25th anniversary being next year, does anyone think it's likely or even conceivable that season one might be released on Blu-ray next year?
Call me an optimist or a fool if you will, but I'm banking on us being at least half-way through TNG by the end of 2012. If we're not up to season 3, I'll be very disappointed.

You're going to be very dissapointed.

I actually got one right for a change, huh? Cool. :)

I was not looking forward to the possibility of TNG taking years to come out.

From the latest press release...

All 178 episodes from seven seasons will be transferred to true high-definition 1080p for release over the next two years on Blu-ray.
A time frame for the releases.

This surpasses my most optimistic expectations. I hope they can stick to that schedule.

Is it Jan 31st yet?

I hope this is a huge success and corporate greed motivates them to do DS9 as well.

Clearly they already have the treadmill in place if they can turn out all 7 seasons of TNG in 2 years.

Heck, while we're at it, let's do Voyager too!

I'd love to see DS9 done too. I've never rewatched it and I haven't seen all the episodes so it would almost be like new Trek for me.

So stoked for January 31st!

Revenue from blu-ray will be low in comparison to revenue from tv sales and online streaming over the next 30 years. They know that people are not going to be interested in watching soft old tape masters with similar resolution to a VHS tape in this age of HD.

I think this is an investment by CBS and future proofs the show. It won't turn a profit from Blu-Ray alone imho.

They definitley need to release a 16:9 version to appease a sizable number of people who crave it. Give both versions (16:9/4:3) to the streaming companies and the tv stations and let them choose.

When they say over the next two years, do they mean starting from the release of the sampler or from the release of season one later in the year? The sampler and season 1 are going to be at least 8 months apart, so that's why I'm asking.

Re: release times...The press release says "over the next two years", not "over two years starting eight months from now."

Two years? Wow, that's faster than I thought. Awesome news, though! Hopefully this means they do intend to remaster all the pre-HD Treks. I don't know if I'll buy up all of TNG (I might, though, since I never got the DVDs), but I will absolutely buy every season of DS9 if/when they remaster that. :D

Excellent news. I hope it isn't too long before the series starts streaming on Netflix, because as excited as I am about this project, I doubt I'll be picking up the season sets. I hope the bluray sales are great, but these days I can't justify dropping even $30 on a bluray set, let alone what Paramount is actually going to charge for these things. I have Netflix specifically so I don't have to spend the money on movies.

I'll definitely be getting sampler, though.

I would be utterly shocked is the seven seasons of TNG are not followed up by DS9, VOY and ENT.
I wouldn't. DS9 and Voyager have lots of CGI work that would need to be replaced above and beyond the usual "shields and phasers" business.

Just to play devil's advocate for a second, you could potentially read that as them doing the transfer work over the next 2 years for subsequent, unspecified release dates.

I suspect however that the general consensus is most likely correct though and we'll be seeing seasons 1-7 over the next couple of years. Yippee! Next, DS9 please. :)
