I assume when you get the replacement discs they'll also ship a SASE for returning the defective discs. It'd be (sort of) cool if they let you keep them, but...

I'm kinda surprised they didn't want us to send the defective ones back first.

Not sure what good it would be keeping the bad ones.

I think it's just good customer service to avoid burdening the customer with sending back the defective discs. I think they must be well aware of how bad this looks...the less hassle for the customer the better. I'm sure they don't need any more defective discs either. lol

Maybe they're hoping that people will repurpose them and avoid saddling CBS with recycling the disks.

I imagine if it wasn't as widespread a problem (ie: 100% of the sets apparently), they might have made the request for return.

I've never had defective discs, so don't know what the norm is.

Only other time I've had defective discs was with the Back to the Future DVD set framing issue but I never took part in the replacement program. This I'll certainly take part of since it is a pretty big problem.

On the sets, I sort of wish there were the Okuda Commentaries like the TOS sets had. I wonder why they didn't do that since the Okudas were obviously very involved with this project.

BTW- Where is the serial number on the disc? I can't find it anywhere.

I can barely make out the SL but cannot read the numbers. How in the world is a guy with eye over 50 supposed to see that small invisible print?

Well, that's just it, they are 'very' involved in the project...to the point of not having any time to dedicate to such commentaries. This is actually a much larger project to undertake than TOS:R.

Yeah, I finally found them. Took a magnifying glass and a flashlight to be able to make readable enough to write them down.

This is going to be so mean, but I can't resist the joke: If you can't read that, are you sure a HD release was a worthwhile investment? :p

Yeah, dark 2-point font on a reflective surface, everyone should easily be able to read that!

Funny in Conspiracy Riker orders Geordi to increase speed, to warp 6, and he replies "full impulse" ooops

A fun experiment. I play the Blu Ray on my home theater while at the same time stream the show from Netflix on my tablet. It can get out of sync at the commercial breaks, which may be timed differently between the two versions, but aside from that it looks and sounds as if the tablet is playing a degraded version of the same signal as the home theater.

Ive played both together for comparisons....:p

2009-2010

Michael Okuda: On a very nuts and bolts level, first we were brought in to look at that early test, frankly, what they were thinking of doing was taking the original standard definition video, which at the time, of course, was absolute state of the art, and enlarging it and using various animation techniques to make it look as good as possible. And it looked…pretty good. But we said, you know, 'If you do this, people are going to go, "Geez. It doesn't look that much different from my DVD."' And so the fact that they stepped up to the plate to say, "Hey, let's actually take the effort to rescan all the films.

Makes you wonder when they would start on DS9-R...

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Star-Trek-Generation-season-1-bd-replacement/17303

CBS Home Video has just issued a statement regarding the audio issues some consumers reported after watching their season 1 Blu-ray set:

Dear Star Trek Fans,

We have discovered an anomaly in the English 7.1 DTS Master Audio track in our Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 1 Blu-ray Box set. There are some episodes that inadvertently had their front channel designations incorrectly mapped, resulting in an undesired playback experience when listening to them in a 7.1 or 5.1 Surround Sound environment.

We are quickly working to remedy the situation. Replacement discs (Disc 1, 3 and 4) will be made available free of charge. Please email phe.stng@bydeluxe.com for details regarding the replacement program. You may also call 877-DELUXE6 (877-335-8936) between 8am to 6pm Pacific, Monday-Friday.

We strive to provide our fans the best Blu-ray experience possible and sincerely apologize for this inconvenience.

Excellent. I just sent an email.

This information merits being highlighted - front-paged, maybe even its own thread so noone misses it.

Having the two so-called "official" threads here gets confusing.

Cool just saw this and emailed them! Really great they are moving so fast on fixing this.

Regarding European disc replacements - I confirmed with CBS today that they are in the midst of putting a programme together for this and instructions for international customers will be announced as soon as it is finalised.

Wonderful to see such a great response after only 6 days of the blu-ray being on shelves!

In the meantime... our Blu-Ray screencaps continue, with some stunning images from the (not-so-stunning-episode) 'Code of Honor':

The Observations article will follow with our partners at Ex Astris Scientia very soon!
