The New USS Discovery....

I think it's a fantastic design! True, the nacelles are quite long and it takes some getting used to, but in the long run, I think it's for the better. The Ent-D took some getting used to as well, and see how iconic that has become!

I like the version in that test footage better. Although I'd also have to say that IMHO the ship would look better during the era after The Undiscovered Country.

I always thought this shot/angle was really cool:

The way the saucer and the secondary hull forms two 'layers' was visually interesting I thought.

I hope we get to see that scene in the actual show.

I am curious as to what the object in the foreground is with the round hole the ship is in?

An asteroid, iirc.

The ship remains the weakest part of the whole thing to me. It's greatly improved from the little teaser trailer, but it's still pretty 'meh'. The basic design is just a bit too ugly to polish.

Check out EC Henry's extremely functional and scientific looking design - would have made a good NX class.

I'm reminded what Christopher Bennet once said here, about one day perhaps wanting to see a Star Trek that was a full reboot and used ultra modern science - rebooted the various races to be more alien maybe - had even more realistic science, maybe real exoplanets, etc. I've always thought that would be cool, however it isn't happening this generation clearly - maybe next time Star Trek has exhausted itself and needs to bring in new viewers in the coming decades, we might have a full reboot, but for now I'm fine with them expanding the existing franchise.

Everyone is so focused on the ships I think the possible station redesigns are being forgotten and ignored. I'm really curious as to what they're going to look like. What if K7 or a similar station shows up. Wonder what the reactions will be like?

I'm hoping that, after Yorktown base being positively greeted last year in Beyond, that they'll be open to stuff radically different to the usual mushroom or cone shapes.
