Just got off the phone with the president. He said it's real.

It looks really nice actually. Will be interesting to compare with the final version in Sept.

On front views etc - in fairness to Discovery, most ships have unflattering views. Voyager was best seen at certain angles. The front view wasn't very flattering compared to the rest, and the beauty shot (underside) was one of the worst angles - which could be argued for the E-D and E-E as well.

I hated the tweaks done to the Church Enterprise in Beyond - the top view being the worst angle possible. The smaller nacelles were heralded by some for being closer to the old, but it really threw the balance off the design. But Lin shot it in a way that made it look quite nice.

That one singular shot of Discovery we've seen so far is whats selling me on the ship. It's such an unusual feeling design, and there's potentially a lot of great angles to show it off, and much like other ships; a lot of bad ones too.

OMG that looks nice...... I feel sorry for anyone on the rings all they will see is other windows on the other side of the gap. I like the gaps.

So this is pretty much the final design?

Much better than the original. As long as they keep the camera above the middle line of the ship it's fine.

I think the nacelles are a tad to long in that model, but otherwise, that looks stunning!! And in every angle if you ask me. I'll take two please. Oh, and if the nacelles are that length, I love it!

I think it's a fantastic design! True, the nacelles are quite long and it takes some getting used to, but in the long run, I think it's for the better. The Ent-D took some getting used to as well, and see how iconic that has become!

I know, it just sorta disappears. Maybe a way around having no cloaking device?

I like the version in that test footage better. Although I'd also have to say that IMHO the ship would look better during the era after The Undiscovered Country.

I always thought this shot/angle was really cool:

The way the saucer and the secondary hull forms two 'layers' was visually interesting I thought.

I hope we get to see that scene in the actual show.

I am curious as to what the object in the foreground is with the round hole the ship is in?

    An asteroid, iirc.

The ship remains the weakest part of the whole thing to me. It's greatly improved from the little teaser trailer, but it's still pretty 'meh'. The basic design is just a bit too ugly to polish.

Check out EC Henry's extremely functional and scientific looking design - would have made a good NX class.

I'm reminded what Christopher Bennet once said here, about one day perhaps wanting to see a Star Trek that was a full reboot and used ultra modern science - rebooted the various races to be more alien maybe - had even more realistic science, maybe real exoplanets, etc. I've always thought that would be cool, however it isn't happening this generation clearly - maybe next time Star Trek has exhausted itself and needs to bring in new viewers in the coming decades, we might have a full reboot, but for now I'm fine with them expanding the existing franchise.

Everyone is so focused on the ships I think the possible station redesigns are being forgotten and ignored. I'm really curious as to what they're going to look like. What if K7 or a similar station shows up. Wonder what the reactions will be like?

I'm hoping that, after Yorktown base being positively greeted last year in Beyond, that they'll be open to stuff radically different to the usual mushroom or cone shapes.
