The New USS Discovery....

The impule engines are the glowing red triangles to the left and right of the shuttlebay door.

But the shuttlebay door itself glows too! The square thing in the middle of the rear end.
I wonder why is that?
I think it's reflected impulse engine light (the ships are a bit shiny and reflective), but I guess it could be the shuttlebay forcefield?

I wonder if the USS Discovery will have one of those 'memorial boards' like the season 1-4 Enterprise D & Enterprise E briefing room walls, or the painting of past Enterprises in Archer's ready room? I imagine there was eventually an NX class ship named Discovery for instance. In fact if the NXs were named for Terran Space Shuttles of the late twentieth century I imagine there were seven of them - Enterprise, Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis, Buran, & Endeavour.

I might be remembering, but it was never the intent to name of the NX Classes after the shuttles, it was just a coincidence, as they named the NX-02 in memory fo the Columbia because of the disaster not because it was the 2nd shuttle.

Though the novels carried on the shuttle naming scheme.

If get any such wall had a picture or model of the Discovery from 2001, I'd smile.

A New Frontier comic book had a model of the Excalibur from Babylon 5: Crusade among it's display of ships named Excalibur.

I really do need to get around to reading those novels and comics.

Who owns the rights to the 2001 movie? That would probably be a barrier to showing that ship, if they wanted to.

So far as I know, it was an MGM movie, which is now under Sony's banner. Not sure if it is still with them, since some classic MGM movies were purchased by Turner. Those are now with Warners, if memory serves.

^ The NCC-1031 doesn't seem to have an entry on Memory's Alpha or Beta. They're probably waiting till the show starts before they let somebody write one.
I was thinking the same. More info on the ship has to be gathered, which I assume will happen as the series airs (ship class, etc.)

However, the Royal Sovereign class Discovery looks slightly familiar...

Actually in 'The Phantom Menace' Dave Bowman's space pod is one of the items in Watto's Junkyard in Mos Espa so there is precedence.
But was that an intentional homage or merely a re-use of set elements from an earlier movie?

Intentional homage.

As I understand it, Kubrick had destroyed all original set elements from 2001, for exactly the reason that they didn't crop up in later films. It could have been a set element from 2010, but whether it was or wasn't it couldn't have been accidentally used.

Adding this mostly just for completeness, but Eaglemoss is doing DSC ships per TrekCore. You can see a tiny little Discovery and Shenzhou. Discovery definitely has long nacelles.

Those issues, FYI will be larger than the regular issues but smaller than the specials. They're looking at releasing one ship a month starting in the 1st qtr of next year.

One thing that was news to me in that Eaglemoss interview, is that Pixomondo is doing the Discovery effects. I did hear that they fired their in house team, but I had missed who got the job.
