The new sonic screwdriver

^I don't go into the Trek XI forums, but I know what you're talking about. It's crazy that people complained when Enterprise came out that things looked too modern. Well, my response is wake the heck up and join us in the 21st century. Of course they look modern, it's supposed to. As for what things should look like, how about something that looks like the series was done in 2010 instead of going back to the 60s or 70s. How about a more casual looking design. The current design for the Tardis and Screwdriver were great because they did look modern and cool. As for the Blue police box, of course because that's what the Tardis is. And what is wrong with Contemporary in a science fiction/fantasy program.

I hope Moffet does a good job, and maybe I will warm up to everything in the long run, but right now I'm not really digging it. That's all.

what about the new sonic screwdriver makes it look retro?

no question, the over all feel is that its closer to the Classic Series, both in the Doctors outfit & TARDIS design, but I dont see anything wrong in what we have seen so far.

I actually dont see how any TARDIS design can look contemporary, as the police box is not a contemporary design, its something of the 50s & 60s, their is no way to make it more modern, other than production quality.

The whole point of the Doctor is that he's an eccentric time traveller with a fixation about Earth. Dress him like it's 2010 and he's just another guy who happens to have a time machine, the whole point is he shouldn't fit in anywhere!

And Trek XI didn't look contemporary (well maybe the bottling plant/engine room) it combined a retro and forward thinking looks. Contemporary in Trek is the dull boiler suits and general blandness of Enterprise.

Not in my Who thank you very much. And anyway, Who is becoming more modern. In the 20th Century the Doctor dressed like it was the 19th, now it's the 21st Century the Doctor dresses like it's the 20ths...that's progresss isn't it? ;)
