I wonder if they'll explain why they look like they do in Discovery
Possibly?
"They are coming, atom by atom. They will silence us cell by cell, our souls shall become theirs. We must fight for one thing above all. To remain Klingon."

To me this sounds like the augment virus, or at the very least they are concerned about loosing their identity as Klingon's. Perhaps they are Klingon supremacists and isolationists who are worried about alien DNA getting mixed up their pure bloodlines. The comment is vague enough to keep us speculating, as any good promo should. I can't wait to find out.

It may be the AV, but It's honestly likely more akin to what others have postulated, that this Klingon Empire is an analogue to the recent populist political streak in the US in the past couple years, demonstrating a xenophobic and extremely anti-immigration attitude towards outside influences (such as the Federation) and willing to engage in war to push back.

I'm not terribly concerned about the different look. Either they will come up with an explanation, or the fans will. They always have.

I didn't realize it but there is actually footage of the other Klingon without a helmet from Star Trek Into Darkness - see this deleted scene:

The beard looks smaller in the footage. Not 100% sure, though. I know they lost their head hair because the wigs kept snagging on the helmets.

So apparently Kahless' promise to return mentioned in TNG: Rightful Heir is written in Klingon on one of the sets.

 There are two Klingons with hair in that photo. And from memory we see at least one with prominently long hair in the finished film.
My bad, I meant to say the unmasked Klingons are bald because their hair kept catching in the helmets when they pulled them off.
