I try to avoid being caught aboard a sea-fearing vessel... which I presume would be a ship that enters the water looking like this variation of the Enterprise looks now?

I don't recall any dialogue which indicated this. I mean, there was no "OMG WE'RE IN THE ATM NOO!" going on. Everyone seemed pretty unconcerned about that element of the situation, presumably because the Enterprise could handle it just fine.

I still think that the Primary Hull is too small in relation to the rest of the ship... what I've seen in all the screen-caps I've checked out tells me that the saucer is oversized relative to the rest of the ship, while it's pretty clear you're trying to keep the "classic" proportions.I made a revised version of my sketch based on the new trailer pics:

I'd LOVE to have seen something like this as the Titan (no offense, Sean). Something that would look like a TNG-era ship but having TOS-era design influences.

What? My saucer is way, way wider than the old one. I admit I'm just taking a guess, but it can't be much bigger than I've already made it.
Well, I admit I haven't gotten out a slide-rule yet, but one of my major skills has always been a tremendously accurate "spacial awareness" sense. The saucer you gave us there is about the same proportion as the TMP saucer, relative to the rest of the ship. The ship had just slammed through a time barrier and was damaged by the transit; they were in the atmosphere because they were in trouble, and were working their butts off to correct the situation. It's impossible to say from that whether the ship was designed to be in atmosphere, since they were nowhere near 100% at the time anyway - they might've considered being in atmo just icing on the cake ...
OT, looking at that (very nice and clear) drawing, I have to agree that the secondary hull is probably about 10% - 15% too big. I also think that the front edge of the nacelles is not nearly as far back from the trailing edge of the saucer; even accounting for the distortion of the angle of that shot, I'd say that the two planes are nearly identical, if, in fact, they don't actually overlap.
With regards to the ship operating in an Earth-type atmosphere, any of you seen a certain installment of the NEW VOYAGES films, one that takes place in part on the planet of the Guardian of Forever?
As for the ship being built on the ground, I just have one question.
How in the world are they going to get that big thing in orbit and have it hold together in one piece?

And if you want a TOS explanation, look no further than the Federation world Ardana, whose city Stratos, is sustained in the sky by antigravity. Surely you'll admit that if the Feds have the tech to maintain an entire city 1000s of meters in the air continuously, then lifting a puny starship into orbit would be no big deal.

I agree with the assessment on the new design and on the quality of the new ship's drawing. I just wish that a more accurate version of the TOS blueprints were being used, like Shaw's, Casimiro's or Sinclair's
Here's an update of the earlier thing I posted, with the Casimiro TOS sideview included for comparison.
The more we flesh this new ship out, the more I'm liking it.
