The New Enterprise Reveald

Oo, I forgot about this thread. Time to promote my frosty chocolate Ent-shake sketch again:
stxient2nm9.png

The saucer is certainly bigger, and the engine hull has been plained down a lot. I actually don't mind the sturdier neck, though I could do without the neck wrinkles.

CLB: allow me to butt in here:
that's still inaccurate, though... you need to look more closely at the relative sizes of the components. You're trying to match the proportions of the TOS ship, but it's pretty obvious (even allowing for some "fish-eye-lens" effect) that the saucer is oversized and the secondary hull is undersized, relative to the original shapes. Take what you've done and increase the saucer size (to roughly 130%) and you'll be closer to what's in the image (assuming quite a bit of "fish-eye" effect... if you assume less, it's more like 150%).
I have a hard time telling what's going on in that pic, but now that we have seen the trailer, the saucer is a lot bigger for sure.

^^ Comparing the two overlayed like that affirms even more strongly how much more I like the TOS E far better. That new thing is just wacked and lacks any remotely apparent sense of overall integral logic to its design.

I think the nacelle pylons are a bit weird, but it's not as bad as I thought it was from that original pic. It's definitely lacking in some respects. I'm a little confused as to why the new ship lacks any starfleet/UFP markings, for example. And the underside of the saucer looks horribly plain - no landing triangles, no registry, no undercut, no windows...ugh.

The overall shape is certainly growing on me though. The ship looks more like 'one piece' rather than a bunch of parts stuck together - the neck, engine hull, and pylons flow together without sharp break points. I can see the logic of that, though it does make the ship less modular by the same token.

Is that sketch of the new E accurate as is or is it tweaked to what it should be?

Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.
Well, just a very basic side-view, others forthcoming. Man this thing is hard to pin down. Nothing seems to line up from one screencap to another. Disregard the odd impulse deck and the stupid looking shuttle bay (placeholders)...
The odd gray lines on the neck and other places are where creases and curving surfaces would be rendered.

I'm wondering if the weird greeble deflector guts actually retract back into the secondary hull "tube"...just looks odd, especially in (attempted) corrected orthos. I wonder if that is like a modern fighter...swing the radome out, pull out the radar rack, and expose the frame and LRU's, cables, etc. I can almost see Scotty floating in space, fixing stuff before the mission begins....?

The Kelvin didn't appear to have "guts" hanging out, while apparently having similar "deflector" structure...

That's pretty sweet.

Thats beautiful man. Great job. I am not too sure about the guts behind the deflector, but other then that perfect.

If you take any non-fan who might see this movie and show it to them (as we have already seen anecdotal evidence of on this board) people will say they basically look the same like the 1701 or 1701A. Its really not all that different. Now that we have some other views from the high res trailer, I think a lot of these early comments on this thread are moot.

RAMA

If you look at the first image we were given, the ship lacks nearly all markings and the engines have been quoted to be offline at that point, with her picking up several shuttles.

I'm guessing shes rushed into service so yeah, either the deflector isn't fully completed or is not yet fully active. Or it may even just retract for the warp flight mode.

Secure? Earth is supposedly a semi-utopia at this point. Besides, there is probably a huge laser turret just off screen, ready to vaporize any bunnies or small children who wander too close to the ship.

I love this photo.
Hold it! This thing is being built on the ground? A vessel that isn't designed to fly in atmosphere and it's being built on the ground? :wtf:

If so then chalk up another for dumb-as-shit bit of stupidity.

And people wonder why I have zero faith in this project.

The Enterprise in your own precious TOS flew in an atmosphere just fine in "Tomorrow is Yesterday". Didn't look like it was having any trouble doing so, either.

I love this photo.

Looks like a half-finished John Berkey painting ... I loved Berkey's stuff, but I liked it when it was complete, not looking so much like a painting.

I was already wondering when your 'painterly'-comments would start...

Yes, like any seafearing vessel this spacefaring ship is being build on land.
It's now established canon.
Here is a knife.
