The New Enterprise in 3D! ... NOW FINISHED (threads merged)

He's using Second Life, a virtual world wherein one can assemble assemble objects out of collections of "prims" or primitive objects such as a cube, sphere, torus, or cone, transforming them with a variety of parameters to create shear, stretching, twists, etc.

You can't really use an application outside of Second Life to build things ... at least not easily; you're essentially manipulating an in-world avatar while doing any construction. I built a TOS Enterprise there a while back, and it wasn't easy.

Judexavier, are you planning on doing some more of your line drawings of your Enterprise? It would be great to see the orthos of your ship.

Sounds like DOGA, only more "polished"... :D

Here's mine in DOGA:

I didn't get an invite via MSN, so just send me an IM or email me.
Speaking of email, now that you have finished the model (both this and the Kelvin) if you email me the models, I can start getting them into Star Trek video games.
Email: Johnnymuffintop@gmail.com

Also... the only teeny-tiny thing I have a problem with is that the deflector seems too purple to me. The hue just seems a tiny bit off but it's really nothing.

It might be. I was going off of a couple different images of the Kelvin, and it is more purple in others. It might also be the combination of the light blue, and the dark blue. :)

E-Mail with 2 RAR files is sent...

Thanks,

Well, it's a back-burner thing right now, I keep changing major things like moving the nacelles up and down, having to redraw things, changing my mind every other day. :) The front view is really bugging me, as it seems like the saucer really is huge (camera lens not withstanding) and I can't seem to make the arched pylons not look rather stupid:) I'm almost ready to wait until all the official movie publications come out, rather than trying to guess. But, I really wanted to finish it as an "airbrushed" aircraft-style 5 view, so yeah, I'll post some more images as it comes along.

(I usually fire up the second trailer when I get frustrated with it, and that seems to help):)

Can't wait for a Polar Lights 1/1000 or 1/350 model. (one good thing, wouldn't need much in terms of a light kit). :)

edit: Good Lord, how many smiley faces can I put in one post?

Going to bump this, since I have been tweaking some things on my ship.

At the moment, I have made the deflector dish about 10% smaller, and I totally reworked the Nacelle Caps. I think this is as close as I can get to the effect, with my limited abilities. :)

So, how did I do?

Wow, I really like the updates. Would you mind sharing your models of this and the kelvin. I think you've got the closest to actual out there and would really like to see where my geometry is going wrong. If I use them for anything else, credit would be given in full. You definitely deserve it!!!

If so, ettylka@comcast.net

Thanks

Thanks. :)

What software package are you using? My modeling technique is very messy, so it may confuse you more than it helps. :)

Would wireframe views help? I can post some of those. I don't think I'm going to send out my mesh (again) yet, but I may submit it at SciFi Meshes when I am 100% happy with it.

Post some pics of yours, so we can compare.

AWESOME UPDATES!
I'd like to point out though that I think the smaller bussard blades where on the inside in the first trailer.

Very nice! I like where you're going with the bussards, it really captures the tone and look of the ones on the movie ship...very Cool and effective.

I think they were also, but I couldn't make them fit the way I wanted them too. :)

Alright, before bed, one big piece of eye-candy...

WOK1_1440.jpg

and the 1280x1024 one...

This is my STXI Enterprise, and my Kelvin kitbash model the Avenger. I hope it's obvious they are at the Mutara Nebula. :)

Have a good one, everybody. :)

A small update... Just tweaking a few thing. The Enterprise is no longer so purple, and I took the ship out of the background, it wasn't working for me. :)

So yesterday was the official "avatar change" day :)
Or maybe I was just a trend-setter (I changed mine twice).

And, nice work there. The Mutara nebula "warning shot" scene is great.

I think so, my little brother was playing that stupid crazy frog game... That is one of the weirdest things I've seen in a while. :)

I'm thinking we need to have a bit of a mini contest, for who's come the closest to the actual design. The one and only deciding vote would be from the one guy we know has seen the actual orthos of this beast, Rick Sternbach.
