The New Enterprise in 3D! ... NOW FINISHED (threads merged)

I'm thinking we need to have a bit of a mini contest, for who's come the closest to the actual design. The one and only deciding vote would be from the one guy we know has seen the actual orthos of this beast, Rick Sternbach.

Even a vague, oblique positive hint, without actually saying "yes that's her".
I suppose some level of secrecy, if somewhat arbitrary at this point, will be imposed until the thing comes out.

Perhaps the biggest suprises will be the inside of the ship, main engineering, transporter rooms, shuttlebay, etc. Anybody conjectured their visions of those sets?

Thanks everybody. I don't know, I think I'd like for us all to not find out what it EXACTLY looks like, until we all go see the movie. :)

While it might be fun having my AA and Playmates TOS E's wail on this thing, I'm not that much of a completist that I absolutely must have this misbegotten ship.

Amazing work. While I'm still, strictly speaking, not a fan of the new design, you certainly managed to make her at least seem quite easy on the eye :techman:

Thanks, :) I am currently tweaking abd improving on some things that I overlooked, or didn't pay much attention to the first go round. I'll have some updates soon.

Well, I have been busy. :) I re-built the Bridge, and the area beneath it. I made them look more like the Refit Enterprise, and I put 3 "VIP" style windows at the back.

I have an idea about the deflector dish... What if it retracts some back into the hull? I went ahead and moved it back some, and I think it radically changes some shots.

I tweaked a bunch of textures, worked on my windows, and various other things I forgot.

Here goes...

I'm going to also revisit my Mutara Nebula wallpaper with this updated model, as well.

Wonderful as always. I know we all have family, jobs, other things that need attention, but you are so adept at this (Blender, right?) I'd love at some point to see some tutorials...heck just sceencaps with descriptions. As I and others have mentioned, you are incredibly fast and accurate. I know, that would be way down on the list, but.... :)

Do you do thumbnail sketches, scans, or anything before you get on the computer? Or just jump right in?

Anyway,

Great work, give us more! :)

Going to bump this, since I have been tweaking some things on my ship.

At the moment, I have made the deflector dish about 10% smaller, and I totally reworked the Nacelle Caps. I think this is as close as I can get to the effect, with my limited abilities. :)

So, how did I do?

You did just fine. :D

Thanks. :) I may start up some tutorial threads one day, but my only fear is that I will tech everyone bad technique. :) I've got a fair bit of free time nowadays... My wife is a teacher, and I am computer tech support for the same school district. While she's grading papers, etc, I'm doing this. :)

If I have reference photos, I normally jump right in. I also don't normally worry about even trying to measure things out, I just eyeball it until it looks right, and then match it up with blueprints or whatever I have to tweak it afterwards. Sometimes I get it right, sometimes I am way off. :)

I have a whole book of doodles/sketches that work out of if I am making something that I thought up myself. Most of them aren't very good, but it gets the Brain working, anyway.

Please consider posting your doodle/sketchbook ideas!
(Fresh ideas/inspirations are always a good thing). :)
Thanks, I may do that as soon as I get my scanner going!

I've been playing with some specularity maps, and I think they add alot of depth to this thing....

Now, if I didn't suck so bad at lighting... :)
