The new DS9 station-Anyone draw it yet? (SPOILER ALERT)

Finished Raise the Dawn, and for those of you who have read it, you know that the old DS9 station is destroyed. On the final page of the book there is a description of the new facility that will become the new Deep Space Nine (and it doesnt mesh with what they have on the cover of the book). Has anyone taken a crack at drawing it yet?
Yeah, I doodled just the basic shape on a piece of paper of three connected rings (one along the X-axis, another along the Y-axis, and another along the Z-axis). Reminds me a lot of one of the early concepts for DS9, although it had two of the three rings along the same axis.

The link doesn't work.
Works just fine for me, even days later.

^ FWIW, I PM'd our esteemed mods yesterday to bring the thread to their attention.

The link doesn't work.

That's because the server it points to is protecting against hotlinking by checking the incoming request's referrer field and blocking the request if it's not empty and not its own domain. And when you click the link in the context of this thread, your browser sends the TrekBBS thread URL as the value of the referrer field, which doesn't meet those requirements for clearance.

Long story short: Copy the link, then open a new browser tab or window, paste it into its location bar, and press the Return key. That will cause a request with an emtpy referrer field, and you'll get to see the image.

Perhaps one of the writers know (or perhaps the novel says it; I haven't gotten to this book yet but I am working towards it), but who designed the new DS9 (in real life)? I only ask because if the cover features the modules being built, then I am *guessing* that there's already an end-design in place.

What's depicted on the cover is essentially just the "construction shack," not the new station itself. I doubt the actual design has been finalized yet.

Ah, I see. Thanks Christopher.

^ Well, exactly. What Christopher means is that S&S probably haven't finalized the design yet, not that the design is unfinished in the universe.

I thought the construction shack was that brown framey thing that surrounds the buildings.

That's more like scaffolding. It's based on the drydock frames we've seen surrounding various Enterprises in movies like TMP and GEN, and it clearly doesn't contain habitable spaces. The term "construction shack" refers to "a... temporary structure used for the job office during the course of a building construction project." The scaffolding/framework is being used for the construction of that temporary office structure, i.e. the set of gray modules within them, which resembles the orbital office complex seen in TMP. That's where the designers' and builders offices will be based while they work on building the station itself, just as Scotty worked out of the orbital office complex while refitting the Enterprise.

^ Agreed. Could one of the mods change it?
The destruction of DS9 née Terok Nor is probably the single biggest spoiler of the entire year for the entire franchise EDIT:with the possible exception of the final identity of Cumberbatch's character in STXII, though it depends on how you look at it.

The identity of the Cumberbatch character is a much bigger deal.

Not to everybody.

^ Yes, I contacted the mods about it.

Taking them a while to do anything about though, which is pretty odd, since this forum has a pretty good mod-team that's always paying attention.

I know Rosalind can be quite busy with the good old real life lately (she mentioned in the upcoming books thread, for example). I don't know about LightningStorm.

I should maybe mention, I've actually floated the idea of adding myself as a third mod for the sub-forum if they feel they could use an additional pair of eyeballs to distribute the load. I already enjoy doing some of the housekeeping work like opening the monthly review threads for the last half-year or so and getting their titles consistent, and I tend to visit the forum most days of the week (and both my work and some of my hobbies have me stay in front of the computer anyway, so checking multiple times throughout the day is easily possible). I'm also familiar with how the board software works.

But it's probably fairly unlikely, since I've only been posting with significant frequency for a year now (though I was lurking since around 2006/07) and I'm guessing haven't really earned that level of trust yet.

^ I seem to remember that either T'Bonz or someone else from the Admin/Mod staff has said in the past that the best way to not become a mod here at TrekBBS is to ask to become one.

FWIW Looking at their profiles it seems that Rosalind hasn't been active for about a week now, but Lightning Storm was online yesterday evening (CET) so if people have notified on this thread he should have seen it I guess.

^ For the record, though, I didn't "ask to become one", I volunteered to help out if there's a capacity problem because I don't mind housekeeping work - I'm of course perfectly content either way :).

Nor do I mean to suggest that our esteemed mods aren't putting in a lot of effort, by the way - after all, they just did a ton of thread renames for me. This is just a case of unlucky timing.

I noticed that too, but his last post was quite some time ago (early June). Maybe he's got TrekBBS as his browser's home page or some other HTTP client logging in with his cookie, but hasn't actually had time to read his PMs yet.
