The new Batman Animated series

I saw some of the Blue Beetle episode earlier. It was terrible. Perhaps I'm too young (and too old?) to enjoy the art style, but I very much disliked it aside from the frozen Kirby-style parts (though I'm not usually really a fan of Kirby's artwork). Worse, the voice acting and writing were terrible. I'd have hated this cartoon when I was little. It reminds me of the horrible DC and Marvel cartoons produced between the early 40s and early 90s. There's a general air of cheapness about the show (like the bizarrely limited animation).

And I'm a Duck. I don't fear Badgers.

I'm sorry but you can't tell people what to think or what to say, that's why it's personal opinion.

I'm not telling you what to think or say. I'm disagreeing with the underlying premise of what you say, which is not the same thing at all. It's dishonest and cowardly to say that freedom of speech means that you get to say what you want but nobody's allowed to challenge it. That's bull. You can say whatever you want, but I'm just as free to express a dissenting view, to challenge your premises and explain my reasons for doing so. That's called debate. It's supposed to go both ways. If you have specific disagreements with the opinions I offered, then you're free to present and explain them. Just claiming that I'm silencing you by daring to speak my own mind, attacking the mere fact of disagrement rather than responding to the specific points thereof, is a way of scuttling debate rather than participating in it.

"I just don't care for it." There, I'd better shut up now. Awww, I just can't...

Neither me, nor my 11 year old, nor my 4 year old enjoyed the show. We all enjoyed "The Batman", and we'd rather watch reruns we recorded.

I found it too simplistic, my 11 year old found it boring, my 4 year old just kept asking for the "other" Batman. I didn't find the characters very compelling either, I didn't get hooked into wanting to follow them along.

Sorry but I never claimed or said any of that.

As I did say, you're getting a bit carried away.

Well, I kinda liked this one -- mainly because it actually managed to give Aquaman a personality. That's an accomplishment. Also some decent character interplay and conflict.

I didn't understand the teaser with the Atom, though. I guess it only works if the viewer is familiar with the character and his powers. How does the Atom have the ability to levitate things (and people)? I was expecting it to be Dr. Fate or Zatanna who was helping Batman, and then it turns out to be the guy who gets real small? Huh?

Tuned in for a bit of the aquaman episode and watched about 10 minutes of the middle. I turned it off. I won't be watching any more.

My understanding is that the Hulk cartoon has been cancelled due to the lackluster performance of the movie. The two upcoming Marvel series are Wolverine and the X-Men and the CG-animated teen Iron Man show. I'm not sure whether the latter will qualify as "adult," though the former looks mighty intense and impressive from its trailers.

Did you know that some lucky shmoes in Canada get to see the new X-men show now while we have to wait possible months for it. This SUCKS!!!

Yeah, I was surprised it was the Atom too.

I also enjoyed the episode, it was certainly..."funnier" than the last one, which I could go either way on.

I liked Aquaman's bravado...especially when it slips when Batman is talking about his brother, Aquaman's moment of "step back" was lovely.

I'm really enjoying it...

I'll agree--I didn't see it being the Atom, either, and I still can't figure out how the Atom could make things float around.

Despite that, I liked the episode, and Aquaman's characterization. The Aquaman design was interesting, too--including the beard with the classic costume and short hair was a nice fresh visual twist, which fit with the characterization (kind of a blend of the 60's Filmation version and the Timmverse/JLU version).

Did anyone catch who voiced Aquaman? About half the time (in his shoutier moments) I thought it sounded like John DiMaggio, but thanks to the shrunken size and alarming velocity of the end credits, I didn't see the name.

Yeah, this Aquaman episode was pretty good. I hated the Plastic Man episode and I missed the Blue Beetle episode. I liked their take on Black Manta. Of course it helps to have Clancy Brown doing the voice.

But this series reminds me of just a Millenial version of Super Friends. I keep wanting to hear, "Meanwhile...back at the Hall of Justice..."

I thought that too, but it was actually Kevin Michael Richardson doing Black Manta.

Am I the only one who was bothered by this show's take on Aquaman? I don't know if he ever actually acted like that in the comics, but the characterization of this Aquaman seemed way over the top, IMO.

I immediately recognized KMR's voice, even through the voice distortion. I thought it was quite obvious. But it probably wouldn't be to those who aren't familiar with his distinct voice.

It's an action-comedy show in the spirit of the zany, colorful comics of the Silver Age. "Over the top" is a given. In context, his characterization worked just fine, and was a refreshing alternative to the generic-superhero version from Superfriends and the Namor clone from the DCAU. So far, I think this show is doing a good job giving distinct personalities to the different featured heroes Batman teams up with, and lending variety to the relationships and interplay Batman has with them.

Oh, I'm very familiar with his distinct voice, and I knew the voice sounded familiar, but I couldn't quite place it through the distortion. Also, Richardson is good at varying his vocal performance, so it isn't immediately recognizable. It took me weeks to figure out that Tombstone in The Spectacular Spider-Man had switched from Keith David in the pilot to Richardson doing a Keith David impression in later episodes. He's that good.

So far I have liked all of them...but I thought the AQUAMAN one was just okay...I rank them this way..

Blue Beetle Episode
Plastic Man Episode
Aquaman Episode

most anticipated? Guy Gardner!!! and the JSA???
