Okay Trek fans, you know the game, now for the opposite. The basic idea is your standard save-with-votes game. I'll provide a list of the movies from I-X and you need to give what you consider to be the best/your preferred movie ONE point, and briefly explain WHY. Be sure to copy and paste the list with your point added. When a movie reaches 5 points, it is saved. Then a NEW round begins (in this thread) with the numbers restored to 0. Vote ONCE per round. Don't forget to give your reasons for your vote, and enjoy! :bolian:

The Wrath of Khan is the best Star Trek film. Khan is a worthy villain. Interesting tidbit: Khan and Kirk never appear together in any scene in the entire film.

First Contact is my favorite Trek film. Builds and sets up from/to the TV universe, has an awesome new Enterprise, entertaining plot, great action, cool Jerry Goldsmith score, a great pro-humanity vibe, and is just a great movie, period.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is the one film in the series that I keep going back to. I like plenty of them, but I return most often to the first sequel, and for that reason it gets my vote.

Though it's close with WoK, The Undiscovered Country has always been my favorite. It has a great serious theatrical vibe that the previous three sorely lacked, and it was a spectacular farewell to the TOS era, as well as the follow up to Wok that I had been waiting for since that movie ended. Plus it made TSFS worthwhile for me.

TWOK is my favourite film, easily, so it gets my vote. It still gets to me all these years after seeing it for the first time and welling up.

Didn't much care for the inside the ribbon sequence.

For TWOK I loved the enmity between Kirk and Khan. Unlike the other movies, you got a real sense of personal connection between the two.

The Search For Spock was a powerful tale of friendship and self sacrifice, something I've not really seen in the other movies.

Nemesis there really wasn't any true explanations for Shinzons' motivation, he hated Picard and the Federation for no reason even though he didn't have anything to to do with the Federation. Nero did have a reason, if irrational, to hate the Federation. Clones don't necessarily have to hate the original and the original doesn't neccesarily have to hate their clones.

Uh...it's supposed to be one vote per round...

Since you like TWOK would you give one vote to that movie, thus saving it permanently, then give a vote for TSFS as the first vote in a new round?

In my mind, it was the end of an era. Kirk and the TOS crew were doing their last movie together (Generations was not even a partial TOS movie, even with Kirk), and IMO, they went out with a bang.

I mean, Undiscovered Country had it all. It had action and space battles, as well as a deeper theme. It had Christopher Plummer, decent acting and dialogue. All around, there were very few weak aspects compared to good ones.

For the record, though, it was a close call between First Contact, Undiscovered Country, Voyage Home and Nemesis (which I thought was a really weak Trek movie, but there was a decent amount of special effects and action scenes/space battles to compensate for its craptastic-ness)

Vulagr you can only vote for one movie per round, but it doesn't matter since I'm ending this round by saving The Wrath of Khan. I think it's simply the best Trek movie with one of the the best villains of the franchise. Wonderful lines will be quoted for decades. :)

Yeah I wasn't sure if I should save TWOK myself (as I was going to do anyway) so we could move the thread on...but anyways it's all sorted now...

For the longest time TVH was my fave...it had time travel, actual location shooting and was the first TOS movie that I actually watched. TWOk has since replaced it, but TVH is still my second fave.

I'm going to vote for "First Contact." It's a fun, crowd-pleasing movie that looks twice as expensive as it cost to make.

Sorry for asking, but isn't that contradictory to the thread title, which says most disliked movie?

Not sure how it contradicts the thread title, but the voting rules are bolded and readily available in the first post :techman:

Star Trek: The Motion Picture - 0
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock - 0

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - 0

First Contact gets my vote. I'm glad WoK is gone already, because now I don't have to argue why I like FC more than WoK.

As tighr wrote in the least disliked game:

Yes, we're picking our favorite by eliminating our least favorites.

When it gets down to two, one of them will invariably be liked less than the other.
So this time we're picking the most disliked by saving our favourite. And when it gets down to two, one will invariably be disliked less than the other.

The Undiscovered Country - I love this movie and TWOK only beats it out for the top spot slightly, IMHO. I love the politics, the naval feel, the way the Enterprise sets look more real (with panels having knobs and buttons, for example). An excellent send-off for the TOS cast.

I have to vote for First contact, for being the best TNG movie of the bunch, I think it deserves points for being the best big screen adventure with the TNG crew.

I'm voting for TUC, which I love. I loved it so much when I was younger - I remember wondering what was I in for after the opening music, which seemed more frantic than usual. I like it a hair more than First Contact.

Tough decision. I love First Contact and The Undiscovered Country about equally, and they are both high on the re-watchability factor. In the end, I think I'll give the nod to First Contact, purely because of the sheer awesomeness of the battle of Sector 001. We have never seen something even remotely like that in any other Star Trek film. I'm normally not a fan of time travel stories, yet this film seems to integrate it seemlessly into the plot with minimal paradox.
