Game The Most Disliked Regular Star Trek Character

I'm saving Lorca. His arc was a little predictable, but he was an awesome character in the meantime.

No matter how you feel about “The Twist” Lorca was a compelling and riveting character to watch, played by a great actor.

I'm saving Picard's loveable Agnes Jurati. She's a little bit of the 'brilliant computer hacker who can't stop saying everything in her brain' trope but she's also maybe the closest thing Trek has to Farscape's John Crichton. She was just a normal average genius scientist living on Earth when suddenly events happened and now she's constantly way out of her comfort zone and slightly insane.
She's also the only character to come out of the first season more damaged than when she started and she's probably murdered more innocent people than the evil timeline version of herself. But when you need some science done with only minutes left until absolute disaster, she'll pull it together enough to do her part of the plan.

In a roundabout way this also shows which instalments are most popular/most watched among the participants in this thread. I'm sure the Prodigy characters are probably completely fine (and I bet at least some of them are bound to be more interesting than some of the more forgettable/ one dimensional life action characters), but they are likely still left because a lot of people (me included) haven't watched much of the show.

Still, I'm gonna save Carol Freeman, the infinitely put-upon Captain of the Caerritos who has not had enough coffee for this **** and just can't catch a break.

There's also decades of fondness built up on the older shows, and so much more time spent with those characters. It's hard for even an incredible brand-new character to top a sentimental favorite of childhood.

I watch Prodigy and love it, but the characters do tend to be less dimensional than on the grown-up shows.

But I will now save Zero! I constantly find Zero to be a brilliant rebuke to TNG writers who complained that Deanna was such a limiting character because of her powers. The Prodigy writers clearly take Zero's telepathy as an asset and write TO it, instead of around it, and thus show that you actually can do a lot of interesting things with this.

I'm saving Ash Tyler, he was apparently a really nice guy, who was captured by the klingons, was tortured and raped, somehow merged with a Klingon, made a sleeper agent who attacked the woman he loved, ultimately neither human nor Klingon, not really at home or welcome in either society, lost his career, his son, both women he loved and became head of section 31 and it doesn't feel like this is a job he would have chosen if he had another choice.
Voq can suck it but they got rid of that personality, so I'm more concentrating on Ash and he deserves to be saved, I do feel bad for him and in Discovery season 1 I appreciated that they had a man be a victim of abuse and suffer from PTSD without being shamed, the scene with him and Cornwell when he broke down was very good.

I'm going to save Enterprise's Malcolm Reed. He's perhaps the most 'military' out of all Starfleet characters and that makes him stand out, even though he wasn't given as much screentime as he could've been. It's nice to see a character who takes joy in their work and Reed definitely loved being in charge of the guns. All the guns. In fact he even gave Archer's away team inferior pistols in Broken Bow just so he could give them different pistols later in the same episode.

Ah yes, that's probably also a factor, though still, some of the modern shows emptied much sooner than Prodigy. Personally I don't quite get why I don't like Prodigy. If a cartoon is well written i usually like it just as much as a "grown-up" show, but Prodigy just didn't click with me.

Anyway, next I'm gonna save Jack Ransom, because at least he's entertaining, which is more than can be said for some other characters still on the list.
Plus I loved how supportive and enthusiastic he was during those bridge simulations with Rutherford. It doesn't matter if Rutherford accidentally ejected all children on board into space or had a 120% causality rate, Ransom was game to try again...with a bigger ship, with even more children on board!
And who wouldn't want to hear all his guitar songs about the year he lived in Barcelona?

I'm saving Tasha, she was only on TNG for a short time but I cried my little eyes out when she died, as a kid I did not expect that one of the heroes would die, it was a real shock and her returns in Yesterday's Enterprise and All Good Things were pretty good and fitting.

Remember also that they're at the bottom of the list. Some people just go down and say, "ah, I'll save that one", without going all the way down.

I just wanted to second this! Did I love all of Ash's trauma processing. And what a trendsetter he was -- processing your trauma has now become the favorite hobby of every Discovery character!

What a story that was. I had never seen a male character be that vulnerable in Trek, and I so appreciated how they handled it. I hate that they had to muddy the waters when the writers got confused about who/what he even was.

Remember also that they're at the bottom of the list. Some people just go down and say, "ah, I'll save that one", without going all the way down.

That's a good point. Maybe next time we'll try alphabetical and see what happens... :bolian:

And I have to save Adira Tal. They have been a delightful addition to the cast. Honestly, my only complaint is that they aren't used enough
And no make-out scene with Gray when he came back to life! If those two don't kiss at some point, I'm going to lose my fucking mind.

(I am refusing to allow the possibility that Gray might be gone from the show. He's in the key art for season 4! I only think you do that with characters on track to becoming regulars, ie Adira in the season 3 key art. I could be in denial)

I'm going to save the heroic Captain Dal R'El from Prodigy.
To say that the guy's bad at his job would be underselling just how terrible he is at being a captain, and that's just one of the things I like about the character. He's a 17 year old slave raised by a Ferengi who stole a starship so it makes complete sense that he'd have no idea what he's doing or even know how to work with other people. In fact he's a selfish egotistical jerk. But after a few days/weeks of training he's already shown the potential to be a great commander one day. Unfortunately for his crew he's the commander they've got right now.

There isn't enough to Travis Mayweather's character to dislike him. Which is a shame, because due to his unique background among the crew he had a LOT of potential.

And whit that I'm out for this round because the rest of the list either consist of characters I don't know (or don't know well enough) or characters I can't possibly pick as "not disliked" by me, especially since I don't know enough about the other characters on the list.

Funny how the adorable and indestructible Murf is still on the list despite being predicted as an early save. Well, time to remedy that.
